Senior Macie Elliott, lower left, stood at the free throw line, while the crowd celebrated her 1,200 career point. She finished the game with 20 points and five steals as the Lady Mules defeated Winlock 68-21.

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team returned to play after Christmas break with an easy win, and senior Macie Elliott surpassed 1,200 career points to join an elite crew of former Mule cagers who did the same.

On Friday, the Lady Mules cruised ahead of Winlock by 20 points in the first quarter and never looked back. They beat the Cardinals 68-21.

Senior Charlie Ashe looks to pass inside to Ellie Leitz in the Lady Mules' 68-21 win against Winlock.

Elliott, who scored her 1,000th point at the state tournament last year, was congratulated by the home crowd for 1,200 points after hitting her second shot of the night. She finished the game with 20 points and five steals.

Ellie Leitz had a big game with 19 points and four steals. Paige Mace added 14 points and seven assists. Mckensi Fluckiger scored five points, Jansi Merz had four points and four steals, and Charlie Ashe had two points and four steals. Twins Alexzandria and Kimberlee Watkins finished the game with two points apiece.

"The girls played with good intensity in the first half," Coach Rob Garrett said, "but it wasn't a clean second half."

Garrett praised Elliott, Mace, and Leitz for their work on the floor that night and was hopeful that Leitz' 19 points in the paint would be a boost of confidence for the senior.

Winlock 2 4 7 8 --21
