Young hoopsters compete in Cathlamet

January 10, 2019

Above, left, members of a local youth basketball team warm up before competing in a tournament last weekend at Thomas Middle School. Coach Garrett Miller filed this report: This last weekend's fourth grade girls basketball tournament was a great success. With close to 100 in attendance both days, and officiated by our top ranked Mule girls basketball team, the fourth grade girls on all teams played their hearts out. After day one action concluded Wahkiakum had gone 3-0 and had earned to top seed for bracket play. On Sunday morning, the Mighty Mules followed up their tough play with another win to earn their way to the championship game where the fell to a tough Toledo team to finish second. This was the first time youth basketball games have been held in Wahkiakum for over 20 years, and will hopefully be the first of many tournaments. Big thank you to the high school girls team for helping us with referees and volunteers. Photos by Kelli Mendez.
