Jake Leitz gets a good look at the basket despite defender's best effort in the Mules' 54-46 win against Winlock on Friday. Leitz finished the game with eight points.

The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team lost last Wednesday but ended the week with a win.

The season started on Friday with the 54-46 win against Winlock, as far as Coach Todd Souvenir is concerned.

"I told the guys all year, whether we were 0-13 or 13-0, it didn't matter, the beginning of our season started that day," he said. "It was our most important game of the season, regardless of what we had done to that point. Every game from that point on is the most important game of the season. All of our goals are in front of us."

Their goals are to get into district and to figure out how to extend their season one game at a time.

Luke Brown and Logan LaBerge led the charge with 15 points apiece. Quentin Nelson added nine, and Jake Leitz had eight. K.C. Beery and Evan Quigley scored three points each. Brody Carlson had one.

Luke Brown scored 15 points in the Mules' 54-46 win against Winlock on Friday.

"We had good intensity on both ends of the floor, we really improved on getting good looks and using the shot clock better." Souvenir said. "It was fun to see Logan (LaBerge) step up and have a really nice game. He scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and made some really clutch threes. Luke (Brown) had a great game on both ends of the floor. I think he had 12 rebounds and five assists. He had an all around good game. I think it gave the guys some confidence going into the end of the season and approaching district. It was fun and everybody stepped up and did some good things on both ends of the floor."
