Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 18 – 7:37 a.m. A caller alleged that a child was being abused in a Rosburg home. A representative from Child Protective Services said that there was a custody battle and she did not believe the child was in danger. 9:16 a.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle heading east on SR 4. 12:07 p.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s office that there was no water source to respond to a burn at a Grays River address. 12:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of respiratory issues. 3:45 p.m. A caller found drug paraphernalia in Grays River. 4:27 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that a toddler was missing. Nine minutes later, she called back to say the child had been hiding in a closet. 4:56 p.m. A caller reported that part of the plywood deck had come up on the Puget Island bridge. The Washington State Department of Transportation was notified. 5:18 p.m. Cowlitz County requested a brush truck from the District 4 Fire Department to respond to a brush fire just east of County Line Park. 5:45 p.m. WSDOT was notified when a small tree came down on SR 4 on the east side of KM. 7:21 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the PUD responded when a branch fell on power lines in the Flandersville area and a branch caught fire. 10:18 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to the report of a power outage on the east side of the county. The PUD was notified and they restored power at 11:49 p.m. 11:22 p.m. A deputy responded when a Puget Island resident reported that someone was knocking on her door.

March 19 – 6:41 a.m. A tree had fallen on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. The county road department responded and removed the tree. 10:01 a.m. A restroom was vandalized at the marina. 1:32 p.m. A caller became concerned when he could not contact his wife at their Elochoman Valley home. The wife called to say she was okay. 1:35 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Puget Island resident. 4:22 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department, deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the Grays River ambulance responded to the report of a brush fire in Deep River. 4:41 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department, deputies, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a brush fire in the Flandersville area. 7:21 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet Fire Department, the Cathlamet ambulance, and deputies responded to the report of smoke and flames along the hillside on Beaver Creek. The fire was turned over to the Department of Natural Resources at 9:10 p.m. 8:50 p.m. A vehicle became disabled after a driver hit a deer on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. A deputy and state patrol responded. 10:43 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance; a couple was fighting while walking on Greenwood Road. 11:06 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual in Cathlamet with low blood pressure.

March 20 – 9:32 a.m. A caller reported possible child abuse at an Elochoman Valley home. CPS was notified. 11:28 a.m. A caller reported that a horse was loose in the Elochoman Valley. 11:59 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident asked for assistance after getting locked out of her home. 12:01 p.m. An individual involved in a domestic disturbance contacted the sheriff’s office. She was given information about local services. 12:22 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg home. The homeowner called to say everything was okay. 1:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having a seizure. 2 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been firing a gun into a nearby slough on Puget Island. 2:37 p.m. A Deep River landlord wanted to file charges against renters, alleging they had started a fire the day before.

March 21 – 5:02 a.m. A caller reported seeing a large cat, possibly a bobcat, near a school in Cathlamet. 7:10 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby at a Rosburg home. 7:34 a.m. A caller reported speeding log trucks on a Deep River road. 10:56 a.m. A caller reported that someone on Puget Island was burning during a burn ban. A deputy responded. 12:15 p.m. A caller reported seeing an open door at a residence in the Alger Creek area. 12:42 p.m. A caller reported that someone in Cathlamet was burning garbage during a burn ban. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 4:10 p.m. A caller reported that someone in the Abe Creek Hill area was burning during a burn ban. The District 4 Fire Department responded. 4:27 p.m. A caller reported seeing a woman get dragged back into a vehicle after she tried to get out in the parking lot of a Rosburg business. Deputies and state patrol responded. 9:18 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been trespassing in her shop on Puget Island.

March 22 – 8:09 a.m. A caller reported seeing someone sleeping in a Cathlamet parking lot. 10:02 a.m. A welfare check was requested for two children at a Rosburg home. 12:07 p.m. A caller reported a car that was illegally parked on a Cathlamet street. The owner was contacted and agreed to move the vehicle. 4:37 p.m. A caller reported that a commercial vehicle was speeding on a Puget Island road. 5:41 p.m. A caller reported that shots had been fired and were flying over her head and hitting trees in the Rosburg area. 9:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen and hurt both his ankles.

March 23 – 10:02 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 10:40 a.m. A caller reported an abandoned vehicle in the Grays River area. A deputy responded and found the owners. They were waiting for someone to pick them up. 12:12 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a woman who seemed to be disoriented at a Rosedale business. 1:35 p.m. A caller reported a tree leaning on a power line along SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the PUD responded. 2:01 p.m. A caller reported that a Puget Island resident was burning during a burn ban. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. The homeowner put the fire out. 6:38 p.m. A Skamokawa resident was concerned about a possible trespasser. 7:15 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 7:42 p.m. A Cathlamet resident asked for assistance in removing an abusive individual from her home. 9:54 p.m. A caller reported seeing several trucks speeding on Beaver Creek Road.

March 24 – 8:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen and hit his head. 11:25 a.m. A caller reported that a Skamokawa resident was burning during a burn ban. A deputy and the Skamokawa Fire Department responded. 1:51 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a pitbull had his wife pinned in their garden. A deputy responded. He was able to get the dog in his car and return it to its owner. 1:59 p.m. A caller reported several cows on a Skamokawa road. After several attempts, the owner was contacted at 7:37 p.m. 4:43 p.m. A caller was cited for driving with a suspended license. 7:43 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen and was bleeding from an eye. 8:18 p.m. Deputies and a representative from the mental health department responded to a Rosedale home when an individual was reported to be suicidal. 8:22 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department and the PUD responded when a Puget Island resident reported a power outage.

March 25 – 12:57 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual with low blood sugar. 3:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen.
