Carl "Pelle" Meiier


Carl Maurice Meiier, known to friends and family as "Pelle," was born December 29, 1932, to Arne and Clara Meiier, and died March 19, 2019, at home in Apache Junction, Arizona at the age of 86 years.

Pelle graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1951 and was in the Naval Reserves. On January 2, 1954, he married Julia “Judy” Lawrence of Westport, Oregon. After the sawmills went down, he moved to Portland, worked in insurance and then owned his own business, Lighting Maintenance Company. Throughout his life he was an avid boater, and enjoyed hunting, softball, trains and big band music.

Pelle is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy. He had two sons, Scott and Eric, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jim McLean, a niece and nephew, and numerous cousins.

A celebration of Pelle’ s life was held March 23 at Greenwood Cemetery, Cathlamet.
