Walking for funds

April 18, 2019

It was a wet Saturday morning, and 1K walkers were already gone, but the 5K walkers had a few more laps to go.

April rain didn't dampen the spirits of participants in the first annual Wahkiakum Autism Walk on Saturday.

Organizer Sarah Lawrence estimated that about 75-80 people showed up to walk in the 1K/5K event to raise $10,000 for a sensory room and sensory walk at the Wahkiakum School District.

"Paul (Lawrence) and I were overjoyed with the turnout and support from local businesses, Lawrence said. "Thanks to the support of our community, there will be more than enough money to get started on the Sensory pathways. It was such a success, we already have big plans on how to improve next year's walk."

The event raised over $3,000. T-shirts were so popular that they've extended the sale until Friday, April 19. Email walkforautismwah@gmail.com or stop by a WSD office to order one.

Right: It was a win/win for friends who showed up to raise a little money for a good cause and spend a some time together.
