Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

April 8 – 8:58 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Rosedale resident after becoming concerned about the subject’s dog. 2:20 p.m. A towing company impounded a vehicle abandoned on Wahkiakum PUD property. 4:27 p.m. A caller was concerned that a Skamokawa resident was keeping too many dogs in one kennel. A deputy investigated and spoke with the owner and determined that there were no signs of mistreatment or neglect. 5:48 p.m. A caller reported that he had almost been struck by a driver speeding on streets in Cathlamet. 7:03 p.m. A light bulb was stolen from a light fixture on the porch of a Rosedale home. The homeowner said that nothing else appeared to be missing but requested more patrols. 10:58 p.m. A driver was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test.

April 9 – 10:15 a.m. Two callers requested a welfare check on an individual living in an Elochoman Valley home. 1:12 p.m. Three calves were loose and on an Elochoman Valley road. 2:39 p.m. A caller reported that a Cathlamet resident had been missing for nearly 24 hours. A deputy reported that the individual returned home at 8:58 p.m. 3:45 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 5:18 p.m. A caller reported a reckless driver heading west on SR 4. 5:55 p.m. Deputies learned that an individual who had called to report a threat had been unwilling to leave a Puget Island property despite being asked to do so by the owner. Deputies told the man that he would need to leave by the next morning and asked the homeowner to stay away until then. 7:05 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to help a New Jersey agency locate next of kin for a decendent.

April 10 – 4:11 a.m. A tree was down and blocking SR 4 near County Line Park. 4:30 p.m. A vehicle with a blue and red flashing light followed a school bus on Beaver Creek Road before turning onto a logging road.

April 11 – 6:44 a.m. A tree had fallen onto power lines along Altoona Pillar Rock Road, causing power outages at several homes. The Cathlamet Fire Department and the PUD responded. 8:44 a.m. A caller reported two suspicious people in a vehicle on a Skamokawa road. 2:13 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle in the Alger Creek area. 5:15 p.m. A disturbance was reported on a Cathlamet street. The individual was yelling racial slurs and cursing. 7:07 p.m. A caller reported that a man in a boat west of Puget Island was asking for assistance after his engine died and he saw a tug boat headed straight for him and was unable to contact them. The sheriff’s office notified the Coast Guard, who was able to assist. 7:28 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a domestic disturbance at a Puget Island home. 8:08 p.m. Two calls came in regarding an individual walking down a Puget Island road, swinging something and cursing.

April 12 – 7:46 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having a heart attack. 8:33 a.m. A caller reported cows on an Elochoman Valley road. The owner was notified. 10:29 a.m. A caller found mail on a Cathlamet street. 3:07 p.m. A Skamokawa resident asked the sheriff’s office to keep an eye on his property after finding a trailer frame moved from one end of his property to another and rope and metal chain near it. He was concerned that someone was trying to steal it. He was advised that there would be more patrols. 8:04 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious person at the marina in Cathlamet.

April 13 – 12:44 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had followed them to their home in Cathlamet and then turned around and left. 8:41 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having respiratory issues. 11:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with a rapid heartbeat. 1:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded after a caller reported a possible overdose at a Cathlamet home. 1:59 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after a domestic disturbance at a Cathlamet home. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported that someone had dumped trash illegally on property in the Skamokawa area. 3:10 p.m. An individual was seen stealing wood from a property in the Deep River area. 3:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a juvenile who had been strangled. 8:58 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a missing dog.

April 14 – 11 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that her dogs had been shot by a neighbor. Deputies responded. 5:01 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that she had been assaulted after she notified her roommate that she had to be out of the house by the end of the month. 8:24 p.m. A driver was pulled over in Rosedale after a caller reported that he was all over the road near County Line Park. 8:40 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked on a Puget Island road. 9:11 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded when a power outage was reported on the east side of the county. The PUD was notified. 9:13 p.m. A tree had come down and was blocking both lanes of SR 4 in the Little Cape Horn area. It had knocked down power lines. Deputies, state patrol, the District 4 Fire Department, PUD and the Cathlamet ambulance responded.
