Young Mules take on Toutle Lake, Winlock

The Wahkiakum Mules softball team continues to struggle, but Coach Stephanie Green is focused on the bright spots, of which there are many.

In Toutle Lake last Wednesday, the Mules lost 22-0 in the first game but played better in the second game for a 12-1 loss.

“Lots of improvement,” Green said, “but boy the difficulty of getting them to talk and work together that first inning was really tough. Aubrie Montgomery really did well pitching the two innings where they only scored five. Rebekah Neves did a great job catching, but the first inning there was no fire.”

“Jordyn Watson and Breyonna Montgomery pitched the second game,” Green continued. “They did a great job while Cecelia Williams and Shantelle Shervey were really knocking it dead in the outfield. MJ Neves did a great job at catcher and Destiny Curl at short. Aubrie Montgomery had some great stretches and catches at first base. They looked like they knew what they were doing, making plays and hustling.”

On Monday in Winlock, the Lady Mules lost the first game 17-7. The second game was called for rain.

"Breyonna really stepped up to pitching for us and Rebekah at catching," Green said. "MJ played outfield and supported the team by playing where I needed her to play. Destiny’s leadership at short and Jordyn’s great plays at second really drove the team to do well. All the girls hit and did a great job filling in spots.”

“Great group of young women,” Green said.
