Three former women political candidates joined in as a non-partisan panel at Wahkiakum High School on April 29 to answer questions from students, promote women getting involved in politics, and civil discourse. This discussion was organized by Wahkiakum High School leadership with help from Stephanie Leitz and Amber Rosewood.

Dixie Kolditz (Republican) from Wahkiakum County ran for Legislative District 19 in 2012, Theresa Purcell (Democrat) from Cowlitz County ran for LD 19 in 2016, and Carolyn Long (Democrat) from Vancouver ran for Congressional District 3 in 2018.

The students filled the time with thoughtful questions to which the panel responded with enthusiasm, wisdom, humor and on-point stories from their personal experiences. On dealing with social media they all three strongly counseled the students: Never give in to bullies, and don't respond to that small group that is promoting discontent. On the current divisive political climate: Don't let labels blind you to all you have in common with your neighbors. Talk with each other, and listen. The time was packed with good advice and they hope to have these women back to continue the conversation.
