Local athletes head to district track meets

 


The Wahkiakum Mules track and field team competed in the Central 2B League championships on Friday in Kalama. The Mules took 11th place out of 11 teams in boys’ competition with six points and seventh place out of 11 teams in girls’ competition with 52 points.

Junior Jamil Dimaano was the only Mule to place in the top six in boys competition. He took fifth place in the 200 meters with a new personal record of 23.98.

For the girls, up to sixth place:

400 meters—6. Megan Leitz 1:09.77; 300 meter hurdles—4. Charlie Ashe 51.95; 4 x 200 meter relay—6. Ashe, M. Leitz, Mckensi Fluckiger, Teylor Sauer 1:56.98; 4 x 400 meter relay—4. Ellie Leitz, Sauer, Jansi Merz, M. Leitz 4:46.60; Discus—1. Merz 106-01, 6. Shelby McEneny 84-04; Javelin—5. McEneny 100-03; Long jump—2. Fluckiger 15-07.5; Triple jump—4. Fluckiger 32-00, E. Leitz 31-03.5.

The team will travel to W.F. West High School in Chehalis on Friday to compete in the District 4 2B Championships.


The Naselle Comets hosted the District 4 1B track championships on Wednesday. Results were not available by press time.

Qualifiers for both teams will travel to the 1B/2B State Championship Meet at Eastern Washington University in Cheney which takes place next week, May 23-25.
