Mule baseball team advances to state

 


With a trip to the state tournament already secured last week, the Wahkiakum Mules baseball team finished the District 4 2B tournament in fifth place after splitting games last week.

On Friday, the Mules lost to Ocosta in Adna, 7-1.

Pitcher Brody Carlson took the loss. He pitched four innings, faced 23 batters, and allowed four hits and four runs. He struck out two and walked six. Chance Cothren stepped up for one inning, facing seven batters and allowing two hits and three runs. He walked one. Damion Curl finished the game, pitching the final inning. He faced three batters, allowing no hits and no runs.

On offense, Carlson hit a double and Luke Brown drove in one run.

The next day, the Mules beat Onalaska 4-0 at W.F. West High School in Chehalis in a battle for fifth and sixth place.

Pitcher James Anderson got the win. He pitched all seven innings, facing 24 batters. He allowed two hits and no runs, struck out 16 and walked one.


Brown hit a double and drove in one run. K.C. Beery hit a double. Anderson and Tristan Collupy had one RBI apiece.

Wahkiakum will travel to Yelm on Saturday to play Friday Harbor in a loser out game at 1 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament. If the Mules win, they will play either Rainier or Adna at 4 p.m. the same day.
