Sheriff's Report, June 20, 2019

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 10 – 1:22 a.m. A caller was concerned about a friend who was not answering his phone and had not shown up to take him to work two days earlier, even though he was expected. A deputy was able to make contact with the individual, who was fine. 11:48 a.m. A deputy advised an individual who wanted to retrieve personal items from a Puget Island home. 12:18 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 1:45 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to a report that a grass field in Grays River was on fire. The homeowner was able to extinguish the fire. 4:17 p.m. A driver waiting at the red light at the Puget Island bridge said she had been passed by four vehicles while the light was still red. One of the drivers flipped her off. 4:40 p.m. A power outage was reported at three homes in the Skamokawa area. The PUD was notified. 5:52 p.m. A caller reported that three people had filled their trunk with clams and shellfish while visiting Hornstra Beach. State patrol said they would notify the Department of Fish and Wildlife. 9:41 a.m. A toddler at a Rosedale home accidentally dialed 911. 11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual sitting in a vehicle in a Rosedale parking lot who was having trouble breathing.

June 11 – 10:34 a.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 10:46 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with heart problems. 12:28 p.m. An unknown individual in a black Ford Mustang sped out and almost hit some students after being questioned by staff at a Cathlamet school. The individual was later identified. 1:11 p.m. Power lines fell in the Deep River area, blocking both lanes of SR 4, causing a power outage and traffic issues. Deputies, the Grays River Fire Department, and the PUD responded. 9:32 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle at a Rosedale business. A deputy spoke with the driver, who said he was dropping off a vehicle that needed repairs. 10:38 p.m. A driver was cited for having a suspended license and no insurance. 11:54 p.m. A caller complained about some youths who made a lot of noise before speeding off in a car on a Cathlamet street.

June 12 – 6:40 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who had fallen at a Skamokawa home. 7:58 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle may have been abandoned on a Skamokawa road. The owner of the vehicle later called to report that he had requested a tow truck. 8:03 a.m. A caller reported that a suspicious individual in a gold car with a black hood was going down Elochoman Valley road and opening mailboxes. It turned out to be a person delivering newspapers. 12:34 p.m. A caller reported a lost dog. 3:08 p.m. A caller said her husband had seen a young girl who had been walking along a Cathlamet street get into a vehicle after he heard her say, “I’m just looking for my mommy.” 3:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 8:42 p.m. A caller was concerned about two kite boarders who might have run into trouble. The man was finally able to contact the two, who said that did not need any help.

June 13 – 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain. 5:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident after a fall. 5:30 p.m. A caller reported that a tree had come down on a Puget Island road. The county road department was notified. 6:23 p.m. A possible overdose was reported at a Cathlamet residence. Two EMTs from Skamokawa and a representative from the mental health department responded. 6:27 p.m. A caller asked deputies to attend the 8th grade graduation ceremony at a Cathlamet school, stating that some parents were nervous. 6:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who may have overdosed at a Cathlamet residence. 6:59 p.m. Deputies were asked to attempt to locate a vehicle with expired tags and possibly switched plates.

June 14 – 11:45 a.m. A caller requested assistance after locking keys in a running vehicle. 3:53 p.m. The PUD had been working on a water main on a Puget Island road and requested that nearby residents be notified that they should run water until it was clear. 4:26 p.m. A caller reported that a man in his bare feet had been sitting in front of a Cathlamet business for about an hour. He appeared to be drunk. A deputy responded and was concerned that the man may have alcohol poisoning. The Cathlamet ambulance was called at 4:31 p.m., and the man was transported to the hospital. 4:29 p.m. A caller reported that her car was damaged and stuck on the Puget Island bridge. State Patrol was notified. The caller’s family assisted with a change of tire. 6:29 p.m. Deputies were asked to attend the high school graduation ceremony in Cathlamet. 9:17 p.m. A caller reported that two vehicles were racing and had passed about 15 cars in the Skamokawa area. 10:41 p.m. A caller reported that six vehicles were headed out to Bradley Trails.

June 15 – 7:08 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a neighbor had come on to his property and painted a 10 foot line. 8:28 a.m. Deputies and Fish and Wildlife responded to Hornstra Beach after receiving a report that several people were poaching clams. 9:37 p.m. A driver reported that he had struck a deer on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 12:53 p.m. A caller reported that a youth was operating a four wheeler without a helmet. 12:55 p.m. A caller reported that drivers were speeding on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 1:21 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing east county resident. 1:46 p.m. An individual was moved to a sidewalk on Main Street after being trespassed from all the common areas in a Cathlamet building, where he had been found sleeping. 3:15 p.m. A caller reported that children were riding an ATV on a Puget Island road. 3:18 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident complaining of chest pain. 5:26 p.m. A caller reported that a transient was digging through the garbage in the Rosedale area. 5:59 p.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Rosburg resident. 6:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had injured a leg in a fall. 7:15 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 10:01 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that someone may have tried to break into his truck during the night. 10:58 p.m. A caller reported two suspicious people in the Flandersville area. They claimed they were fishing but did not have any gear.

June 16 – 4:58 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that a man had broken into her barn, hooked her boat to his car and tried to drive off. He abandoned his vehicle and the boat after going through a fence and getting stuck, taking off on foot. The resident notified the sheriff’s office that she was armed. She was asked to call back if the man returned. A deputy responded at 5:45 a.m. Authorities in Clackamas County were asked to contact the owner of vehicle. After some investigation, the agency determined that the owner had moved to Vancouver and would try to contact him there. A tow truck was called to the scene and the vehicle was impounded. 6:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was having tremors and had fallen. 11:12 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down on SR 4 in the Flandersville area. 1:54 p.m. A deputy spoke with a person who had reported a confrontation with an individual in a truck in the Elochoman Valley area. 4:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Beaver Creek resident who had fallen off a ladder. 5:32 p.m. A caller reported that a speeding vehicle had passed unsafely on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 7:10 p.m. A caller reported that a power line was down in the Rosburg area. The Cathlamet ambulance and the PUD responded. 8:26 p.m. A caller reported that an individual in the county jail had called her twice, violating a restraining order. 9:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded when a Cathlamet resident reported that a smoke detector was activated.
