Sheriff's Report, July 4, 2019

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 24 – 10:22 a.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet home after a medical pendant was activated. Lifeflight was en route. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported seeing smoke in the Beaver Creek area. The District 4 Fire Department responded. The Department of Natural Resources was notified and responded as well. 2:13 p.m. The Town of Cathlamet notified the sheriff’s office that they would be flushing out a hydrant located on Elochoman Valley Road. 2:20 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that she had been approached by a suspicious individual who asked her to sell him some of her husband’s things. 2:59 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 3:09 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to assist the Department of Corrections in contacting an individual at a Puget Island home. 3:12 p.m. A Skamokawa resident notified the sheriff’s office that he had been given permission by the county fire marshal to burn a small fire in a metal ring. 5 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 6:25 p.m. A deputy and a representative from the mental health department responded to a Puget Island home after an individual threatened to attempt suicide. 10:54 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an individual walking around Vista Park after the person called a crisis line and admitted to suicidal thoughts. Deputies were unable to locate the individual.


June 25 – 6:59 a.m. A cow was loose on a Puget Island road. The owner was notified. 10:10 a.m. A caller reported finding a possible human jawbone in a Rosedale garage. 11:07 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that he had been bitten by a dog. The owner said he would take care of the dog. 12:31 p.m. A caller reported hearing multiple shots fired in the Skamokawa area. A deputy spoke with the individual who had been shooting. 5:08 p.m. Two people were seen digging for clams at Hornstra's Beach. Fish and Wildlife was notified. 7:13 p.m. An alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley address. A deputy responded and discovered it was a septic alarm.

June 26 – 7:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 2:01 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 2:49 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 3:36 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to assist another agency that was handling a wildlife violation at Hornstra's Beach. 4:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking incessantly during the day and night. 5:04 p.m. A brush fire was reported in the Rosburg area. The Grays River Fire Department responded and the fire was extinguished at 5:57 p.m. 7:26 p.m. A Deep River resident reported a power outage. The PUD was notified. The resident called back to say it was a false alarm.


June 27 – 12:35 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 10:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Alger Creek resident who had fallen. 12:09 p.m. A caller reported that a family member had driven to County Line Park and had threatened to attempt suicide. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded, but no vehicle matching the description in the call was found at the park.1:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with issues related to diabetes. 3:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 4:41 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on a Cathlamet street. 4:51 p.m. The owner of a property in Deep River said that someone had abandoned four vehicles there and blocked access to the property with garbage. They may have also stolen some farm equipment. A deputy responded. 5:07 p.m. A person was witnessed stealing from a Cathlamet business. 6:32 p.m. The sheriff’s office responded in the patrol boat and the Coast Guard was notified when two boys in kayaks ran into trouble in the Columbia River. One boy had fallen out of his kayak and was clinging to Buoy 33, while the other boy tried to help him get into his kayak. A deputy reported that the boys had made it to a slough and were okay. 7:12 p.m. A representative from the mental health department said he had been asked to go to a Rosedale home to talk to someone about shoplifting. He asked that there would be no deputy assist unless there was an emergency. 9:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident.


June 28 – 5:43 a.m. The Skamokawa ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen. 1:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 3:38 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 in the Cathalmet area. 10:22 p.m. A driver was cited for speed.


June 29 – 10:01 a.m. A caller reported that a bull was loose on a Puget Island road. The owner was notified. 11:11 a.m. A driver was cited for speed. 2:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with respiratory issues. 5:18 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 5:53 p.m. A caller reported that he had been threatened the day before while fishing. When he returned, he found that someone had vandalized his truck. 6:11 p.m. A caller reported seeing an individual throw trash out of a car window while traveling on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 10:59 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident. She was fine.

June 30 – 11:24 a.m. A fire was reported in Skamokawa. The Cathlamet Fire Department, District 4 Fire Department, and Department of Natural Resources responded. 12:42 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist and aided an ailing Rosedale resident. 2:20 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 4:05 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for an individual in a dark colored Dodge who was heading west from Cowlitz County. He allegedly brandished a knife. 4:48 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 8:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who may have had a stroke. The Cathlamet Fire Department also responded, and Lifeflight was en route. 8:11 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver who had been heading east and had pulled into a garage at a Rosedale home. State patrol was notified. 8:26 p.m. A caller reported that youths were riding dirt bikes without helmets on a Deep River road.
