Lest We Forget

Throughout our lives we all have had events, people, and places, especially, that have influenced our memories. We still at times gaze into space recalling a past place we wish we could see again, but it is gone. Many of you remember when Johnson Park was the Rosburg School. Some of you were students who loved to romp the halls but now have children and grandchildren of your own. Others were the teachers who had a great influence on their young minds. The nice thing is that the buildings and the property now form Johnson Park--a community center with a variety of things suited no longer for a school, but for everyone.

This place has millions of memories, stories from your immediate past that are but a vague mist lost in time. It would be a sad loss to see this historical landmark disappear. There have been a few complaints by those who have chosen not to use the facilities; however, in all fairness to those involved with keeping the Johnson Park open, Shonda Ware, Denise Blanchard, and Toni Fest have had their collective hands full. They volunteer their time in their busy lives trying to accommodate the community, but they can't do it alone. They really need help. The latest incident involved some minor vandalism, but this has not deterred these faithful women from the tasks at hand. Use word of mouth to others who can help.

This is a team effort. We, as the community, are the team. I am not trying to get on a soap box; I just would not like to see this great part of local history disappear. We do not realize sometimes what we really have until it is gone.

Naselle Timberland Library Community Picnic

This was a great opportunity to get out and meet the community and listen to others' stories. Tuesday, June 25 was the 15th annual Community Picnic and Potluck at the Naselle Timberland Library. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and chips were provided along with lemonade. Almost everyone brought a dish to share, but there was more than enough for everyone. Okie's Select donated a case of hamburgers. Fred Johnson, the culinary wizard, was on hand to grill to perfection enough of his homegrown beef to the delight of everyone.

Starting from 6-7:30 p.m. on July 9 and every Tuesday until August 13, the library will host Music on the Lawn: Howly Slim on July 9; Greg Parke on July 16; Double J and the Boys on July 23; Kim Angelis and Jennifer Goodenberger on July 30; Erik James on August 6; and Lulu LaFever on August 13.
