Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 29 – 1:29 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had been spitting up blood. 9:44 a.m. A caller reported that a portion of SR 409 would be blocked for about an hour for construction, and traffic would be rerouted. 9:48 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a neighbor had put up a line to mark a border inside their property line and taken a couple bales of hay that did not belong to them. 11:09 a.m. A neighbor had put up a temporary fence on a Rosedale caller’s property, and his dogs were constantly barking. 11:57 a.m. A Puget Island resident found a woman sleeping on her beach. 2:10 p.m. A Cathlamet business reported that a check had bounced. 3:27 p.m. A caller reported that a refrigerator had been abandoned in a parking lot in Cathlamet.

July 30 – 12:41 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious person walking around a Cathlamet business. When the caller confronted him, the individual told him to go home.7:59 a.m. A caller was concerned about cows that were near a Puget Island road. The owner was contacted. 8:22 a.m. A caller reported that goats were loose on a Puget Island road. 10:46 a.m. An alarm was activated at an Alger Creek address. The alarm was canceled by the monitoring company. 12:00 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient who had a seizure. 12:28 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident who seemed to be despondent. 2:24 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a child at a Cathlamet residence. A deputy responded and determined that everything was okay. 3:08 p.m. A caller reported that the traffic lights on the Puget Island bridge were not working. 4:49 p.m. A caller reported that a motorcyclist traveling west on SR 4 had passed 10 cars and was doing wheelies. A deputy responded and the motorcyclist was given a warning. 6:30 p.m. A caller reported smoke on a Puget Island property. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 10:17 p.m. A caller reported that an individual on a Puget Island property had four more animals than she was allowed.

July 31 – 11:14 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident asked for a vehicle unlock after her dogs got locked in the car with the windows up. 1:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 6:20 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 near Nassa Point.

August 1 – 7:54 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down on a Puget Island road. The county road department was notified. 7:57 a.m. A caller reported that a man was squatting in a motor home on a Cathlamet street. 12:49 p.m. A caller reported that four people in a timber company’s truck just drove up a private driveway in Rosburg and into the woods. A deputy responded and determined that the call was unfounded. 1:09 p.m. A caller asked for assistance regarding state benefits that were being withheld. 3:51 p.m. A caller reported that two men in a commercial van were dumping garbage in the Elochoman Valley. 5:36 p.m. A deputy was asked to clear a building in the Elochoman Valley after a door was found unlocked. 8:09 p.m. A caller reported that a woman had jumped in the river fully clothed. She said she had dropped her keys and jumped in to retrieve them. 10:54 p.m. A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle had been parked at Hornstra Beach for more than a half hour.

August 2 – 1:14 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident with chest pain. 9:23 a.m. A caller reported a branch had fallen onto Beaver Creek Road. The county road department was notified. 10:27 a.m. The Vancouver Police Department forwarded an internet theft complaint to the sheriff’s office. 8:02 p.m. A caller reported a reckless driver heading east on SR 4 in the Cape Horn area. 8:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a dislocated hip. 10:16 p.m. A Little Cape Horn resident complained that a dredge was removing sand and that sand was not to go on his beach. 11 p.m. A water alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. The Town of Cathlamet was notified and the alarm was silenced at 12:15 a.m.

August 3 – 12:15 a.m. A caller reported that an ATM was unattended and on a dolly near the store in Skamokawa. According to the deputy who responded, there appeared to be a new ATM inside the store and the old one seemed empty and looked like it had been there for awhile. 11:44 a.m. A caller said he had been kicked out of his Skamokawa home and that no one would let him see his child. He was concerned about the child’s safety. A deputy responded and found the mother and child safe. The father had been asked to leave due to problems with alcohol. 12:12 p.m. A caller was concerned about two people who were arguing in a car that had stopped at a Rosedale business. 4:06 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, the Skamokawa Fire Department and Lifeflight responded after a vehicle rolled over and down an embankment on SR 4 on KM. One person was trapped in the vehicle and needed extrication. 5:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen. 5:35 p.m. A caller reported that there were screws sticking up from temporary plywood on Puget Island bridge. 5:39 p.m. A caller reported that her daughter was being stalked and harassed by an individual at her place of employment in Cathlamet. 8:28 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman and two children who were camping in Skamokawa. 9:56 p.m. A driver was taken into custody during a vehicle stop. 10:05 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a woman walking on an Elochoman Valley road. 10:31 p.m. A caller reported hearing shots fired in the Skamokawa area.

August 4 – 12:02 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an individual standing alongside SR 4. The caller said there was a strong smell of gasoline and a car was a little farther down the road. A deputy passed the area an hour later and the man and his vehicle were gone. 7:19 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 9:10 a.m. A Elochoman Valley resident said his neighbor had driven through his yard to avoid a speed bump. 9:30 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that she had heard a cougar in her back yard the night before. She was advised to contact Fish and Wildlife. 3:07 p.m. A caller reported that it looked like a car had broken down and stranded a family in the Rosedale area. 5:40 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of an unoccupied home in Deep River. 7:10 p.m. Clatsop County authorities asked the sheriff’s office to be on the lookout for a suspect wanted for attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault in Westport, Oregon. 7:52 p.m. A caller reported that there was water shooting out of the ground at a Puget Island property. The PUD was notified, but the caller was able to resolve the issue. 8:02 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver. 9:20 p.m. A caller reported that an individual was messing with his things at a campsite at the marina in Cathlamet. 9:31 p.m. A caller reported smelling smoke in the Elochoman Valley area. The District 4 Fire Department responded and found a brush pile being burned nearby. The homeowners extinguished it. 9:48 p.m. A caller reported that a power line was down in the Skamokawa area after a branch fell on it. The PUD responded. 10:52 p.m. A caller reported that a man was using a spotlight at the marina. A deputy responded. It turned out to be an individual who said he had heard something outside his camper. 11:56 p.m. An alarm was activated at an Alger Creek address.

August 5 – 12:11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with breathing issues.
