An apparatus that monitors air quality was recently installed in the Cathlamet area. On Tuesday, the Wahkiakum County Health Department issued an Air Quality Advisory.

"We are currently experiencing unhealthy air quality levels in the county, based upon Washington state standards, due to smoke from fires in eastern Washington," the announcement said.

The health department recommended that sensitive groups such as people with asthma, respiratory issues and heart or lung disease should stay indoors, and everyone should limit time spent outdoors.
