Workers on Monday prepare a bridge joint for paving under the watchful eye of Department of Transportation engineer. Paving was completed Monday night.

Contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) completed repaving of the SR 409 Puget Island Bridge Monday night.

The progress allowed WSDOT to cancel nighttime closures planned for this week

"Contractor crews will work on the bridge joints and railing this week, under single lane closures," said Tamara Greenwell, WSDOT regional communications officer. "For everyone's safety, the speed limit across the bridge remains at 25 mph. Please slow down, pay attention, and give crews room to work."

Later this year, Greenwell said, when the osprey vacate the nest on the temporary platform, crews will remove the platform and place the nesting material nearby so that the birds can use the material to rebuild during next year's nesting season.
