N/GRV School Board Meeting Notes

The Naselle/Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on Tuesday in the Middle School Commons.

The following board policies were adopted: 2410 High School Graduation Requirements, 2413 Equivalency Credit for Career and Technical Courses, 3115 Students Experiencing Homelessness Rights and Services, 3120 Enrollment, 3207 Prohibition of Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying, 3231 Student Records, 3416 Medication at School, 3520 Student Fees, Fines or Charges, 5201 Drug-Free Schools, Community or Workplace, and 6100 Revenues From Local, State and Federal Sources.

Policy 3211 Gender-Inclusive Schools was discussed in detail and it was agreed that further dialogue would take place.

The board approved the Title I Parent Involvement and Highly Capable plans for 2019-2020, and fuel bids were awarded to Ferrell Gas and Wilcox & Flegel. The surplus of a 2018 Chevy van was approved. Also approved were out of area teaching assignments for Brian Macy, Jim Moten, Aldrich Smith, Richard Rudolph, Kathryn Green, Blake Updike, Qin Xia, Sylvia Hoagland and Haleigh See.

Overnight travel and out of district trips for fall sports and activities were approved along with the Booster Club activities for 2019-20. A first read of Policy 6230 Relations with Vendors was conducted as well.

Josie Ciambetti presented on the Migrant and Bilingual programs, and Principal Steve Doyle discussed the building goals for the year.

Superintendent Nelson reported that the number of students had remained the same at both the K-12 school and the Naselle Youth Camp from the end of school in June to the start of school in September.

The next regular school board meeting will be October 15 in the Middle School Commons at 6:30 p.m.
