Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 9 – 8:32 a.m. A caller reported that a tree limb was blocking a lane of traffic on SR 4 just east of Flandersville. 9:23 a.m. A caller reported that a westbound driver was speeding and cutting corners on SR 4 in the Little Cape Horn area. 10 a.m. A caller complained about someone without a permit parking in a handicapped space on Main Street. 10:57 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on her son who she believed might be staying at a residence on Beaver Creek. A deputy followed up, and though he never spoke with the individual, he received confirmation that he was okay. 2:56 p.m. A driver struck a Rosedale business with his vehicle, causing damage to the building. No injuries were reported. 6:10 p.m. A caller reported that a third party said there had been a mudslide between the Grays River Grange and the Rosburg store. State patrol responded and could not locate the mudslide. 8:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of high blood pressure. 8:55 p.m. A vehicle was disabled after hitting rocks on SR 4 just east of Rosedale. A deputy responded and a tow truck was called.

September 10 – 6:34 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen and was blocking a Grays River road. The county road department was notified. 10:04 a.m. A dog was found in Cathlamet. 10:16 a.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on a Deep River road. 10:40 a.m. A caller reported that two people had come onto her property in Cathlamet around 1 a.m. and were looking around with flashlights. They ran away when her dog got out. She later said that the subjects had tried to get into her garage. 12:49 p.m. A renter in Grays River reported that the landlord had tried to take the washing machine. The landlord said that the renter had assaulted her. They were advised that this was a civil issue. 1:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance was called to assist an individual who was choking, but were called off when the issue resolved itself. 2:33 p.m. An individual who was acting strangely refused to leave a Rosburg business. A deputy transported him to the county line. 2:52 p.m. A caller reported that there was a deceased deer on Elochoman Valley Road. 4:08 p.m. A dog was found on Puget Island. 6:03 p.m. A caller reported that a woman was walking along SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. She had asked for law enforcement. A deputy responded and took her to her home. 6:22 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who had fallen.

September 11 – 7:07 a.m. A caller reported that a possible drunk driver had struck a garbage can at a Rosedale business. A deputy responded and the subject tried to run away. She passed a field sobriety test and was released. 11:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who could not get up. 11:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual complaining of chest pain at a Rosedale address. 12:22 p.m. A caller reported finding things that did not belong to her in her storage unit in Rosedale. She believed that some of the items were illegal substances, and that they were being left there by a neighbor. 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with a laceration on his face due to a fall. 1:22 p.m. A panic alarm was activated at a Rosburg home. A caller said to disregard the alarm. 3:22 p.m. A panic alarm was activated in Rosburg. It was canceled. The owner was having a problem with his key fob. 4:50 p.m. A caller reported that a tree limb was hanging in some power lines on West Sunny Sands. 4:54 p.m. A caller reported that someone had parked in a crosswalk on Main Street in Cathlamet.

September 12 – 8:42 a.m. A caller reported that a truck heading east on SR 4 was carrying too large a load. 12:43 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the Rosedale area. 2:01 p.m. A driver was cited for not having insurance. 2:58 p.m. A caller reported identity theft. 4:18 p.m. A caller reported that several drivers were speeding on North Welcome Slough. 4:56 p.m. A caller reported a rollover accident on a Grays River property. No injuries were reported. A tow truck was called. 5:42 p.m. A caller was concerned about an emaciated horse on a Puget Island property. A deputy spoke with the owners who said the horse was 30 years old and not expected to live much longer. The deputy said that the horse had food and water and was clean and cared for. 9:57 p.m. A caller reported hearing several shots fired in the Alger Creek area.

September 13 – 5:01 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who may have broken a leg in a fall. 8:40 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an individual to the hospital when his catheter had become clogged and needed to be changed. 11:13 a.m. A caller reported an extension cord was extended across a Deep River road, possibly providing electricity to a trailer nearby. 1:57 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 2:33 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 2:59 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of a headache and dizziness. 4:30 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that she was being harassed. 6:28 p.m. A caller reported that she and her husband had been confronted by an individual on a Rosburg road. A deputy responded. 6:54 p.m. A driver struck a deer on SR 4 east of Cape Horn. A deputy was dispatched when they discovered the deer was still alive. It disappeared before he got there. 7:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the high school after an athlete suffered a neck injury during a football game. 7:44 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle heading east on SR 4.

September 14 – 2:44 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with a rapid heart rate. 6:35 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 8:04 a.m. Two hunters on the east side of the county reported that they had been shot at by a man and woman in a black Honda. Two deputies from Cowlitz County and an officer from the Department of Fish and Wildlife responded. 10:56 a.m. A Cathlamet homeowner asked for assistance when they were trying to show the home to a potential buyer and the renter would not allow them into the house. Eviction notices had been served, the landlord said, and the renter had been given proper notice about the showing. 12:41 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 3:54 p.m. A caller reported that someone had left a spike in his tire. 5:18 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 7:37 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident who was not answering the door or the phone and had a history of suicide attempts. A deputy responded and found that she was not home. 10:20 p.m. A driver was cited for speed.

September 15 – 12:28 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle prowl at a Cathlamet home. 1:04 p.m. A caller was concerned about the welfare of some horses on a Puget Island property. She also said that a dead chicken had been tied to a dog and they were both locked in a small crate. A deputy responded and spoke with the owner. The horses looked fine except for one that looked a little skinny, but it was in the barn with plenty of food. The owner said she had read online that the only way to cure a dog of killing chickens was to tie the carcass to the dog for a day or two. 3:53 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 6:19 p.m. A caller reported that an individual had violated a restraining order. 11:26 p.m. An individual at County Line Park was arrested for violating a restraining order.

September 16 – 1:16 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual with possible food poisoning. 3:53 a.m. A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle had been parked at a Rosburg business for over 24 hours. 7:18 a.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor’s barking dogs. 9:49 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs had gone after her horse. She said she had warned the neighbor she would shoot the dogs if it happens again. A deputy spoke with the caller and the owner of the dogs. The owner apologized and said she would keep an eye on them. 7:50 p.m. A caller reported that a driver had struck a deer on SR 4 in the Rosburg area. State patrol responded but was unable to locate the accident. 8:55 p.m. A caller reported hearing a single gun shot near his Alger Creek home.
