Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 14 – 7:48 a.m. A caller reported a speeding truck on a Rosburg road. 9:41 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a trespasser. 4:11 p.m. A driver was cited for speed. 4:56 p.m. A caller was concerned about a person with a history of strokes who had left the home but had not arrived at his destination within a reasonable amount of time. The caller asked the sheriff’s office to be on the lookout for him. At 5:01 p.m., the caller said the individual had returned home. 6:47 p.m. A caller reported smoke and a strong smell of burning plastic on Puget Island. A deputy was able to locate the burn. He spoke with the property owner and advised him about burn permits. 7:36 p.m. A caller reported that a man was walking in the westbound lane of SR 4, trying to wave down drivers. A second call came in about the man. A deputy responded and spoke with the individual, who was walking home and using the light on his phone to let drivers know he was there. 10:50 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when an individual was struck by a vehicle on East Valley Road and suffered a broken leg.

October 15 – 3:46 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 8:27 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported an abandoned vehicle on his property. 8:55 a.m. A caller said he had lost his wallet at a Skamokawa business a few days earlier. 10:18 a.m. The sheriff’s office received a referral from Adult Protective Services regarding a Skamokawa home. 12:13 p.m. A caller reported that two students assaulted each other at the high school in Cathlamet. 12:54 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle appeared to have been stripped for parts and abandoned on Beaver Creek Road. 3:49 p.m. A caller reported that a father was sending threatening texts to his children. 3:52 p.m. The tenant of a Deep River home reported that the owner of the property told him that he and his daughter could live in the home in exchange for work. The caller said that the owner now wanted them out. A deputy advised the caller. 4:46 p.m. A caller asked for assistance after getting locked out of a vehicle while a dog was still inside. 5:30 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that hunters had shot at his home. 6:09 p.m. A caller requested assistance in removing an individual from a Deep River home after a domestic disturbance. An individual was taken into custody. 7:16 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Rosedale home.

October 16 – 1:48 a.m. A third party reported receiving a text from someone asking her to call the police after an individual at an Elochoman Valley home became irrational, possibly due to prescription drugs and mental health issues. Deputies responded, and the individual was removed from the scene. 9:30 a.m. A caller reported that people were doing cookies in the parking lot of Johnson Park. 9:30 a.m. A caller again reported an issue with a landlord at a Deep River home. 10:05 a.m. A caller reported a topless woman carrying a baby along Elochoman Valley Road. An individual was detained. 10:38 a.m. A caller reported that a chrome book issued by a Cathlamet school had not been returned when a student transferred to another school. 4:03 p.m. A Rosedale resident became concerned when he found a neighbor’s door open. 8:54 p.m. A caller reported an unattended 30 foot brush fire on a Puget Island Road. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 11:41 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that two people had set off her security lights. They were carrying bags and had gotten into a vehicle belonging to someone who was not allowed on the property. Deputies responded and determined that it was a civil issue.

October 17 – 7:17 a.m. A caller reported that an unknown dog on his property was chasing his animals. 12:30 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with heart issues. 12:59 p.m. A caller reported an unattended brush fire on Puget Island. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 3:49 p.m. A caller reported that a restraining order had been violated. 4:49 p.m. A caller reported a reckless driver on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. 5:22 p.m. A caller reported that an animal was being neglected on a Skamokawa property. 6:20 p.m. A caller reported rocks in the eastbound lane of SR 4 near Flandersville. 6:50 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he was receiving harassing phone calls. 7:38 p.m. A caller reported a dead deer on Columbia Street in Cathlamet. 9:13 p.m. An individual was stopped by a deputy at the marina in Cathlamet. 10:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident with heart failure.

October 18 – 12:24 a.m. A caller reported several slash burns in the Elochoman Valley area. The Department of Natural Resources was contacted. A spokesman said they would check their burn piles later that day and get a burn list to the sheriff’s office. 3:05 p.m. A caller reported illegal burns in Grays River. A deputy responded and spoke with the property owner. 10:36 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was blocking both lanes of SR 4 in the Rosburg area.

October 19 – 8:21 a.m. A caller reported that several trees were down and blocking Oneida Road. The county road department was notified. 8:53 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking one lane of Salmon Creek Road. The county road department was notified. 10:21 a.m. A caller reported that speeding was a problem on West Sunny Sands Road. 11:48 a.m. A driver was cited for speed. 2:49 p.m. A caller reported that her former landlord was leaving her belongings by the side of the road in the Grays River area. 2:59 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the Skamokawa Fire Department responded to a rollover accident on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 3:29 p.m. An alarm was activated at an office in the Cathlamet area. A deputy found an open door and contacted a responsible party.

October 20 – 4:50 a.m. A caller reported that large rocks on SR 4 near Mill Creek Road had caused two flat tires. State patrol was notified. 7:04 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Deep River resident. 10:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual in the Elochoman Valley with an unknown problem. 12:04 p.m. A caller reported that a protection order had been violated. 1:08 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 3:57 p.m. A caller reported that a road sign was down in Skamokawa. The Washington State Department of Transportation was notified. 5 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a rapid heart rate. 5:34 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having a heart attack. 6:48 p.m. A caller reported that a truck had been parked on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area for three days.
