Wahkiakum County is a county made up of people who volunteer their services without complaint and are an example worth merit. Anyone interested in becoming an emergency medical technician (EMT) should know that this is a serious commitment that could lead to career development and life tools for the future.

Mary Stellar and Ann Parrino, pictured above, are volunteers who live in the county. These ladies' attitude is typical of most volunteers who readily accept the risks because they are community oriented and genuinely care for their community.

For those who are looking for more than a job and who would like to give back to the community, then becoming a volunteer as an EMT may be exactly what you are looking for. Grays River Ambulance from Wahkiakum County Fire District 3 is looking for anyone over 17 years of age that can pass all the requirements for training. They may enroll for the course being offered January 5 through June 1, 2019. The EMT course will be offered in Longview at the Lower Columbia College. Tuition cost is $1,250 which includes course materials and medical liability.

All those who complete their course will be licensed both by Washington state and nationally. This allows one to be an EMT anywhere in the United States. For dates and times or additional information contact Ron Stewart at cowlitzmpd@gmail.com.
