Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

December 30 – 5:46 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had struck a deer on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 8:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having a seizure. 2:20 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident after a family member attempted to call at Christmas and believed that the phone had been disconnected. A deputy made contact with the individual at the home. 6:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident complaining of abdominal pain. 7:34 p.m. A caller reported that a cat was stuck in a tree along Risk Road.

December 31 – 5:06 a.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident complaining of abdominal pain. 12:16 p.m. A caller requested assistance after a friend got stuck on his parent’s property in the Elochoman Valley. He said that his friend’s car was blocked by a trailer.

January 1 – 9:59 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported hearing shots fired. 10:38 a.m. A deputy and the Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident with chest pain. 6:47 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with high blood pressure. 8:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that two mail boxes on her road had been pulled out of the ground and tossed into the ditch. A deputy responded at 11:59 p.m. and found that the mail boxes had been repaired. 9:25 p.m. A caller reported that a driver had struck a deer in the Deep River area.

January 2 – 9:31 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby at a Cathlamet address. 9:49 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident asked to speak to the sheriff about people trespassing on private property, after several men in a boat anchored near his home on the Elochoman River. He said the men were operating a fishing business, guiding people on the river. He said that the men had repeatedly disregarded his demands to stay off his property, and he asked to have a trespass warning issued. He was advised to place No Trespassing signs on his property. 2:45 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was incoherent. 6:03 p.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen and was blocking both lanes of SR 4 on the west side of KM. State patrol responded. 6:38 p.m. A caller reported that an owl had injured a wing after striking his windshield. State patrol and a wildlife rehabilitation center were contacted. 8:13 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked at the end of her driveway in Skamokawa.

January 3 – 9:26 a.m. A caller reported that her daughter had been cornered by a dog on their Puget Island property. A deputy responded and found a pit bull wandering down West Sunny Sands. After speaking to a neighbor, the deputy was able to ascertain the dog’s home and led him there. The owner did not come to the door, but the deputy planned to return to speak to the individual about allowing the dog to roam freely. He also spoke to the caller, who wanted to make a complaint. 12:36 p.m. A caller reported finding several personal items that had been left at a park in Cathlamet. A deputy found the owner nearby, and asked her to take the items home when she left. 5:01 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor was pouring gasoline into mole hills. 5:27 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle headed west on SR 4. 7:11 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver on SR 4 near County Line Park.

January 4 – 8:42 a.m. A caller reported that a stray dog kept showing up at his home in Deep River. 3:45 p.m. A caller reported that a man was behaving strangely at the marina in Cathlamet. A deputy responded. The man departed after being asked to leave.

January 5 – 9:09 a.m. A deputy accompanied an individual from Cowlitz County animal control to a Skamokawa home for the surrender of a horse. 10:05 a.m. A power outage was reported at a Grays River home. The PUD was notified. 12:05 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with respiratory issues. 3:47 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an individual with a knee injury at a Deep River residence. 5:10 p.m. A fire alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. It was a false alarm. 7:57 p.m. A representative from Mental Health requested assistance after an individual at a Puget Island home became agitated and was throwing things. The representative was en route from Longview.
