January 16, 2020



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 6 – 8:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing east county resident. 8:30 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of dizziness. 8:31 a.m. A caller reported a clogged culvert in Grays River. 1:15 p.m. A caller was concerned about a pig on a Beaver Creek property after finding it chest deep in mud in a small enclosure. A deputy spoke with the owner who said the animal was to be slaughtered sometime in the next six days. 2:03 p.m. An individual was taken into custody after an assault was reported at a Skamokawa home. 4 p.m. A caller reported that a slide was blocking one lane of a Grays River road. 5:28 p.m. A caller reported that a transformer in the Rosburg area was sparking. The PUD was notified. They asked to be informed if anyone lost power. 6:15 p.m. A caller reported a landslide partially blocking SR 4 near Grays River. State patrol responded. 7:52 p.m. A caller complained about a car alarm that had been going off for several minutes in Skamokawa. A deputy spoke with the owner of the vehicle and the alarm was shut off. 11:25 p.m. Several callers reported a power outage in Rosburg. The PUD responded, but were slowed by high water and a mudslide. The power was restored at 5:09 a.m.

January 7 – 6 a.m. The Grays River ambulance and the Grays River Fire Department aided a surprised Rosburg resident who had just given birth. She didn’t know she was pregnant. 12:47 p.m. A caller was concerned after witnessing a suspicious person at a neighbor’s home. A deputy found an open door and contacted the homeowner, who verified that the person had permission to be there. 3:13 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a disoriented Rosedale resident. 5:45 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident.

January 8 – 12:26 a.m. An individual was taken into custody during a vehicle stop. 10:51 a.m. Two people were taken into custody after a domestic disturbance was reported at a Grays River residence. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported an abandoned vehicle on an east county road. 2:54 p.m. A caller reported that a restraining order had been violated. 3:30 p.m. A caller reported that a pig was floating in water on a Beaver Creek property. A deputy visited the residence for a second time and told the owner that he had four days to correct the situation or butcher the pig, otherwise charges would be filed.

January 9 – 7:48 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who may have suffered a stroke. Transport was refused, the individual was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. 12:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet business after a customer complained of feeling dizzy and lightheaded. The individual refused transport. 12:52 p.m. A caller reported that a motor home had been parked in front of the fire hall in Rosburg. 1:59 p.m. A caller reported finding a man passed out in the back of a vehicle on a Rosburg Road. A deputy, the Grays River ambulance, and the coroner responded. 2:36 p.m. A caller reported that drugs were being sold at a Cathlamet residence. 3:05 p.m. A deputy responded to an Elochoman Valley home after a caller dialed 911 and hung up. No one was home. 4:36 p.m. A caller reported receiving veiled threats on social media. A deputy attempted to contact the person sending the alleged threats.

January 10 – 10:58 a.m. A caller reported that a lock at Johnson Park appeared to be damaged. A responsible party was en route to address the issue. 12:27 p.m. A caller reported that a restraining order was being violated repeatedly. 12:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an unconscious Puget Island resident. 1:13 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious man going through mailboxes on Greenwood Road. 3:55 p.m. A deputy spoke with two youths and their families after one allegedly threatened to shoot the other on a school bus. The child who allegedly made the threat countered, accusing the other of making the threat. His father confirmed that all their firearms were locked up. Due to their age, it was determined that no criminal activity had occurred, but the deputy made it clear that the behavior was not acceptable, and that the boy could talk to him if he ever had issues with bullies. The deputy planned to have a similar conversation with the other child. 5:52 p.m. A deputy responded to a Skamokawa home after an abandoned 911 call. Everyone was okay. 6:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident.

January 11 – 6:33 a.m. A power outage was reported in Rosburg. The PUD was notified. 6:58 a.m. A caller reported that cows were loose on a Rosburg road. 7:23 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking a Rosburg road. Another caller reported high water on Eden Valley Road. 8:17 a.m. A caller reported that one lane of West Valley Road was blocked. The county road department was notified. 8:29 a.m. A caller reported a possible disabled vehicle on SR 4 in the Grays River area. 10:21 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking both lanes of SR 4 near County Line Park. 10:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with low blood sugar. 4:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident.

January 12 – 5:13 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident complaining of shortness of breath. 9:01 a.m. A power outage was reported in the Skamokawa area. 2:15 p.m. A power outage was reported in Rosburg. A caller also reported that a tree was down and blocking both lanes of Altoona Pillar Rock Road. The PUD and the county road department were notified.
