Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 20 — 11:32 a.m. A caller reported that two individuals had been sitting in a car in the parking lot of a Rosedale business for the past half hour, smoking marijuana. 1 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of severe pain. 2:14 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle was blocking visibility at an intersection in Cathlamet. A deputy responded and determined that the vehicle was not blocking visibility. 2:21 p.m. The sheriff’s department was asked to watch for a possibly suicidal individual driving a red vehicle west from Cowlitz County. It was later discovered that the subject was still in Longview, “driving around to clear his head.”

January 21 — 11:28 a.m. A vehicle went into a ditch along SR 4 in the Deep River area. A deputy, two state patrol, and the Grays River ambulance responded. 12:53 p.m. An unmanned vessel was seen floating on the Columbia River. The Coast Guard was notified. 2:29 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient who may have had a stroke to the hospital. 4:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having an allergic reaction, and whose throat felt like it was closing up despite allergy shots and the use of an epipen. 6:02 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking one lane of SR 4 in the Rosburg area. A deputy, state patrol, and the PUD responded. 6:07 p.m. A power outage was reported in Grays River. The PUD responded. 7:53 p.m. A power outage was reported in Grays River. The PUD responded and found a line down. They said it was still hot and would need to cut power temporarily, in case there were other calls. 8:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about the noise coming from a neighbor’s home. A deputy responded and determined that the noise was not loud from the road, and because there was no noise ordinance for Puget Island, no action was taken.

January 22 — 6:19 a.m. A caller reported suspicious activity after seeing a vehicle stopping at mailboxes along SR 4 just east of Skamokawa. 10:26 a.m. An individual at a Cathlamet school asked to speak to a deputy regarding a suspicious circumstance. 1:54 p.m. A phone was found in the county courthouse. The owner was notified. 2:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual who hit her head during a fall at a Cathlamet home. 2:39 p.m. A caller reported that a suspicious individual was seen behind a Rosedale business. 8:50 p.m. A caller reported that a disabled vehicle was blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. Deputies responded and directed traffic until AAA arrived to take care of a flat tire.

January 23 — 7:35 a.m. A caller reported that a tree had fallen, taking down power lines and blocking both lanes of SR 4 just west of County Line Park. A deputy, state patrol, District 4 Fire Department, the PUD, and WSDOT responded. 7:50 a.m. A power outage was reported on the east side of the county. The PUD was notified. 9:17 a.m. A caller reported that trees and debris were blocking SR 4 on the west side of KM. WSDOT was notified. 11:24 a.m. A caller reported that a tree along SR 4 in the Rosburg area was smoking where it touched a power line. The PUD was notified. 12:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet school to aid an individual who hit her head on the monkey bars. 6:38 p.m. An individual was taken into custody at the county courthouse. 7:52 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking both lanes of SR 4 on the southeast side of KM. State Patrol and WSDOT were notified. A deputy asked for more assistance when he discovered that the landslide was more than 500 feet in length, and another tree could be seen sliding into the highway. The road was closed and the ferry was set up to run all night. 8:13 p.m. A deputy and state patrol responded when a vehicle hit a tree on SR 4 on the west side of KM. No injuries were reported. A tow was called when the vehicle got stuck in the landslide. 9:24 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded when a carbon monoxide alarm was activated at a Cathlamet residence.

January 24 — 12:27 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his wife had an insulin pen needle stuck in her throat. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 10:53 a.m. A caller reported a child custody violation. 12:40 p.m. A person went to the Vista Park office and demanded that they open logging roads to the Westend. When the person was informed that the park had no control over that issue, he became irate and left, peeling out of the parking lot. The caller asked to have the individual trespassed from the park. 1:19 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen at some point in the past couple days and needed to be seen. 3:40 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that documents had been forged. 11:00 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident.

January 25 — 5:16 a.m. A caller reported hearing a loud vehicle traveling at an excessive speed on a Puget Island road. A deputy responded and found two men working on a vehicle a few houses down from the caller. 7:37 a.m. A caller reported that a slide on Shannon Road was getting worse. The county road department was notified. 7:58 a.m. Two callers reported that a transformer had blown and a power line was down across SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. The PUD was notified. 10:10 a.m. A caller reported finding newspapers outside the newspaper bin in Rosedale each morning. 12:35 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. 3:54 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Rosburg home. A deputy and state patrol responded. 6:46 p.m. A caller reported that flames were visible over the fence at a neighbor’s home in Cathlamet. 6:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had lost consciousness. 11:00 p.m. Power outages were reported in the Grays River area. The PUD was notified.

January 26 — 11:49 a.m. A caller reported that an oil tank had fallen down behind a neighbor’s property in the Grays River area. The caller did not know if it was leaking. 3:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual on Puget Island complaining of numbness to her face. 4:14 p.m. A deputy, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident just west of County Line Park. Injuries were reported. A tow was called. 5:41 p.m. A caller reported that a deer was injured after being struck by a vehicle on a Puget Island road. A deputy responded and euthanized the deer. 8:00 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an east county home after a child injured an eye in the shower and a parent lost consciousness while on the phone with dispatch. 9:41 p.m. A caller reported that a flat bed truck had sped past the closed road signs near KM and came to a screeching halt at the landslide.
