Next In Their Footsteps event set

March 12, 2020

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop has announced the next In Their Footsteps free guest speaker series event. History of Powder Horns, with Scott Morrison, will be held on Sunday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m.

Scott Morrison took a class on making a French and Indian War Period powder horn in 2007 and discovered that he enjoyed making powder horns and learning about cattle horns and historic uses of this natural material. As his skills progressed, Morrison strived to make a more correct historic powder horn, which led him to study the various periods and geographic styles of powder horns, focusing on their architecture and eventually to collecting powder horns. Morrison enjoys educating people about powder horns and showing how they express our heritage in simple grace and beauty. He is currently a Journeyman in the Honourable Company of Horners, a nationwide guild whose mission is to promote, preserve and educate its members and the public about the history and knowledge of horn making, and he is working toward achieving the status of Master Horner.

In Their Footsteps is a monthly Sunday forum sponsored by the Lewis & Clark National Park Association and the park. These programs are held in the Netul River Room of Fort Clatsop’s visitor center and are free of charge.
