Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

April 19 — 11:19 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was found unconscious. 12:47 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with a back injury. 3:27 p.m. A caller reported a large rock in the westbound lane of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 3:33 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious individual in a black truck checking out vacant homes on Puget Island. 8:10 p.m. A caller reported a lost wallet, last used at a Rosedale business. 8:53 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a man was at her door, yelling. Two deputies responded and spoke with both parties. The caller said that the man showed up at her residence with some regularity even though she had communicated a lack of interest in dating him. The man said he just wanted to use her trimmers for his bushes, but admitted he had forgotten to take his medication. The caller said she did not want the individual on her property anymore, but no law enforcement action was taken at that time.

April 20 — 8:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was having difficulty swallowing after his tongue swelled during an allergic reaction. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 8:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having respiratory issues. 1:49 p.m. A Deep River resident was frightened after hearing a neighbor firing weapons. A second caller reported hearing 30-50 shots fired. 2:30 p.m. A caller reported that a boat that was barely floating looked like it might wash up on the shore of Hornstra Beach. The Coast Guard was notified. They asked to be contacted when deputies arrived on scene. The caller sent a picture of the boat to the Coast Guard and they told deputies to stand down because the boat was very old. 3:22 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his teenage son had broken into his bedroom, damaging the padlock and the door. 5:46 p.m. A caller reported that a dump truck was speeding on a Puget Island road. 8:05 p.m. A caller reported an injured deer on a Puget Island property. State Patrol and Fish & Wildlife were notified. When deputies responded, the deer jumped the fence and left the area. 11:32 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked at the end of her driveway.

April 21 — 5:54 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked next to a building in the Elochoman Valley. A deputy responded. The vehicle was charging and belonged to an essential worker. 7:42 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident whose legs were swollen and had open sores. 9:14 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor was not home and that his dog had been barking incessantly for the last three hours, making it difficult to focus while she tried to work from home. 11:17 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. A deputy responded. 12:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with a possible hip fracture. 3:23 p.m. Deputies and a representative from mental health responded to a Cathlamet home after an individual threatened suicide. 4:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was found unconscious. 5:58 p.m. A caller reported that a Cathlamet resident was threatening suicide. This was a second call to the home, and a representative from mental health responded without assistance from the sheriff’s office. The representative later reported that the individual’s spouse was monitoring the situation. 10:24 p.m. A Puget Island resident said he would be mowing his fields that night, hoping to beat the rain. He said to notify him if anyone called to complain and he would shut it down.

April 22 — 12:53 a.m. A Cathlamet apartment dweller reported that his neighbor was banging on their shared wall. A deputy spoke with both parties. The neighbor said she had banged on the wall because her neighbor’s conversation was louder than normal. Both parties agreed to be quieter. 6:56 a.m. A caller reported three unknown cows on her Deep River property. Deputies responded, the owner was notified, and the cows were returned to their pasture. 9:48 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident complaining of back pain. 10:37 a.m. A Rosedale resident said his neighbor had threatened him while holding a weed eater. A deputy responded, but the caller said his neighbor had left that morning, bags packed. 10:47 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who had not been heard from in over a month. 12:14 p.m. A Grays River resident requested a welfare check for a roommate he had not seen for a couple weeks. A deputy was able to make contact with the roommate. 2 p.m. A caller reported two vehicles parked in a closed area in Grays River. Fish and Wildlife were notified. 5:58 p.m. Security for a timber company requested assistance from the sheriff’s department to check on a reported encampment in the Rosburg area. 10:59 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was unable to urinate and was having pain on his left side. 11:39 p.m. Grays River ambulance aided an individual in a rollover accident near the KM summit. State patrol was on scene.

April 23 — 6:13 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that he had purchased a five year virus protection plan from a company claiming to be Microsoft, but it turned out to be a scam. He said he had notified his bank. 8:51 p.m A caller reported that a log at Erickson Park was still smoldering after a burn. Two deputies were asked to keep an eye on it throughout the night. A deputy reported that the fire was out at 12:56 a.m.

April 24 — 2:09 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident complaining of a possible bowel obstruction. 12:07 p.m. A caller reported that a cow was walking down Altoona-Pillar Rock Road. The owner was notified. 2:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen and may have dislocated a hip. 8:04 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been sleeping in a carport at a Cathlamet church for a couple hours. He had been asked to leave but would not. A deputy responded and the man packed up his gear and left the property. 9:25 p.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River home after an individual was found unresponsive. 11:28 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident whose leg had swelled after some kind of bug bite.

April 25 — 2:16 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained that an unknown person had placed garbage, some of which was bloody, in his trash can. A deputy responded and found paper towels. 3:01 p.m. A wallet was found near a Rosedale business. The owner was notified. 5:07 p.m. Deputies responded to a Deep River home because a child had been hitting his mother. The youth was advised of right, wrong, and consequences and additional resources were provided to the mother. 7:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having convulsions after falling and hitting his head. 7:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having an allergic reaction.

April 26 — 10:05 a.m. A caller reported that cows were loose on a Grays River road. The owner was notified.

April 27 — 4:50 a.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the District 4 Fire Department, responded after a vehicle struck a tree along Beaver Creek Road. An individual was found in the vehicle unconscious, but he later regained consciousness and was walking on his own. He refused transport to the hospital, and a parent arrived to take him home. The vehicle was towed. 9:58 a.m. A caller reported that a man who had made him and his family uncomfortable in the past was now sitting in his Cathlamet driveway. He later reported that the man had left. 10:41 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident who had not been seen in the past month. A deputy made contact with the subject.
