Wifi hotspots are found across the county

Internet hotspots are a big topic right now, especially in an underserved county like Wahkiakum, in the midst of a pandemic, with students, teachers, and many other people working from home.

While Wahkiakum School District has extended their wifi to their entire campus for student use, and provided as many mobile hotspots as they can to families that need them, Steve Carson, of Skamokawa Internet Service has partnered with The Duck Inn to put in another hot spot in Skamokawa for anyone who needs it, in the restaurant’s parking lot.

There are more, and not just for students. The Cathlamet Library, Vista Park, the Elochoman Slough Marina, Johnson Park, and now the Washington State University Extension Office are all making internet accessible.

Internet is available 24/7 in the parking lot of the Cathlamet Library, according to Librarian Carol Blix, and the wifi network name and password are posted on the door. She asks that anyone wishing to use the service not play huge online games that use up all the available bandwidth, or access illegal materials.

There is no password needed at the extension office. Talk to the staff at the Port 1 office to obtain the password at the marina. The password is posted on the doors at Johnson Park, and information about wifi at Vista Park can be found there.
