Naselle/Grays River Valley School Board Notes

The Naselle/Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met virtually for its monthly meeting on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. This was the second virtual meeting of the board by virtue of Governor Inslee’s mandate regarding open public meetings.

After approval of the consent agenda, the board acknowledged the resignations of Steve Doyle, K-12 Principal and Qin Xia, Mandarin teacher. The board approved the contracts for summer school teachers at the Naselle Youth Camp School (NYCS), as well as the hire of George Scott, special education teacher at NYCS. Justin Laine was appointed as K-12 interim principal.

In other matters of business, the board approved a variety of policy changes and contracts to allow the district to operate more expediently over the next couple of months. A resolution was approved waiving certain instructional hours by virtue of the school closure. Contracts with Educational Service District 112 were approved for business and special services. A 1987 Chevy van and Cushman mower were declared surplus, and authority was granted to purchase a school bus. The board approved replacement of the flooring in the common areas and authority to hire all teachers back for the 2020-21 school year.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
