Coming Events--Community Center in Cathlamet

In the spirit of keeping things interesting while homeschooling or maybe just something new and foreign to spice up your vocabulary, here is a new word to tryout. Ganawenindiwag. It is the Ojibwe word for “they take care of each other.”

We are still working to raise money for the Summer Lunch program this year. If you have the interest or ability to donate funds, you may do so by writing a check payable to Kiwanis/Outdoor Café 2020. You can send your donation to PO Box 515, Cathlamet, WA 98612. I am also still looking for more volunteers to help prepare food, answer phones and make deliveries. If you are interested, you can call or text me @ 360-751-7149 M-Th 9-5.

A reminder: There are still some Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Vouchers left to offer eligible seniors within our community. They are first come first served so give the lovely Kelly Patterson a call at 360-795-8630 option 4. These vouchers have the value of $40 worth of free Certified Farmers Produce. They are quickly being claimed, so act fast and get yours today.

To be eligible, you must be 60 or over and meet requirements: $23,606 Annual, $1967 Monthly Income for 1 person: $31,894 Annual, $2658 Monthly Income for 2 people. For larger households add $691 for each additional person.

I hope each and every one of you has some peace, a miracle or an opportunity to arise. Don’t forget to breathe. I leave you with one more gem for your lexicon, this is how to say ‘thanks’ in Ojibwe: Miigwech.

Take care, keep your chin up and be well, Wahkiakum. “I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.” --Aristotle
