To The Eagle:

Most businesses I have frequented usually have signs posted announcing either “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service” or “We reserve the right to deny service to anyone.”

Business owners have the right, within the limits of anti-discrimination laws, to deny service to the shoeless for sanitary reasons, I suppose, and troublesome customers for reasons of safety, one presumes.

It is my opinion that certain businesses in Cathlamet whose physical layouts make social distancing difficult, need to post another notice, in the interest of public health and safety, as we ease ourselves forward into economic recovery.

That notice should be posted on the front door and state “patrons are required to wear face masks or coverings during business within these premises. We thank you for your consideration.”

No fuss, no muss, no bother. No need to make a federal case or a constitutional crisis out of it. Take your masks off when you leave. Enjoy the fresh air. According to the CDC, enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces still remain questionably infectious if too many people congregate too closely within.

A big thank you to all of those store clerks who are wearing masks and working behind transparent barriers to protect themselves from customers who still choose to not wear facial coverings. Let’s be considerate of each other.
