Wahkiakum County Port 1 Commissioners passed two resolutions and discussed the manager’s report last Thursday at their June meeting.

The first resolution to pass was an interlocal agreement with Wahkiakum PUD, who will perform water testing at County Line Park. Port 1 took over management of the park from Port 2 earlier this year.

The second resolution amended Port 1’s cash collection policy for County Line Park.

According to Port Manager Jackie Lea’s report, there were 11 vendors and seven people involved in the trunk sale at their first farmers market of the season. They practiced social distancing and provided two sanitizing stations.

Port staff are preparing a new campsite at the end of the dike which will eventually be rented as a group camp. They’ve gotten dirt and plan to plant grass, and there is a gravel area for a motor home or trailer.

Lea said she is uncertain when they will open the office to the public. If they do it soon, they will need to purchase a plastic screen for the office, and limit visits to one customer at a time. For now, they continue to help people by phone and haven’t had any complaints.

Paper towel dispensers have been installed in the restrooms, which are currently limited to one person at a time.

Lea also said that all Memorial Day weekend plans and groups had been canceled due to covid-19. As for Bald Eagle Days, the Portland Yacht Club has canceled their cruise. Lea said that some club members may still show up, but not as a big group.

Organizers for the Wooden Boat Show decided to cancel their event this year, after learning that Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce had decided to forgo Bald Eagle Days.

Lea also thanked Jerry Bain for the donation of a riding mower.
