Human remains identified

On June 26, the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office received a report of human remains washed up on the shore of the Columbia River. The remains were recovered by the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office, and due to their condition, the coroner transported them to the office of the Washington State Forensic Anthropologist for scientific examination.

On July 2, those remains were positively identified through dental records to be those of Cory Martin, 26, of Portland, who was last seen jumping off the I-5 Bridge between Vancouver and Portland on December 5, 2018.

The Wahkiakum County Sheriff and the Coroner credit the offices of the Washington State Forensic Anthropologist and the state odontologist for a fast and accurate scientific identification. Also, that identification would not have been possible without the thorough initial investigation done by the Portland Police Department, a sheriff's department spokesperson said.
