Have you read any good books lately? I have been trying to read more as a personal goal, but mostly to try and break up my slight attachment to technology.

I’d like to hear what books you are reading- or what ways you tune out the technology. I like to have a few books going at the same time so I can make them last longer. I’ve been enjoying reading Irene Martin’s book Beach of Heaven, which is a fascinating read about the history of Wahkiakum county. Timothy Egans’ book Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher is about the epic life and immortal photographs of Edward Curtis. If you have a love or interest in Native American life and culture this book is a must read. I am also re-reading Eckhart Tolles’ The Power of Now for the 4th time. The last on my nightstand is a curious book about something called ‘Enneagrams.’ An Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. They describe nine different personality types and map each of these types on a nine-pointed diagram which helps illustrate how the types relate to one another. The Path Between Us by Suzanne Stabile is a great distractor from the tech and I highly recommend it for switching your brain onto a different channel.

Over the next two weeks outreach will be calling seniors to check in and see if there are any unmet needs or suggestions/ideas/concerns on how to better be served. Summer Lunch is rolling like a well-oiled machine. If you or anyone you know have kiddos who need to get food this summer, please call/text me at 360-751-7149.

Be well, Wahkiakum. I leave you with a quote from Irene Martin’s book: “If I had a thing to give you, I would tell you one more time, That the world is always turning towards the morning.” --Gordon Bok.
