Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 5 — 1:57 p.m.A caller reported that an airbag had been deployed when a vehicle struck a dog on SR 4 just east of Cathlamet. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, state patrol, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. A tow was called. 2:57 p.m. A caller reported that he had been sitting at the stoplight on KM for 45 minutes, and that traffic was backed up. State patrol said they would notify the Washington State Department of Transportation. 4:09 p.m. Dispatch heard what sounded like a chain saw, but no one came on the line during a 911 call. Dispatch called the number back, but there was no answer. A deputy made contact with the individual and determined that everything was okay. 6:26 p.m. A caller reported that her mother’s abusive husband would not let her leave their Puget Island home. The caller said that the man had threatened to harm her mother and himself if the cops were called, because he refused to return to prison. Deputies responded and an individual was taken into custody. 6:45 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident who was fearful about her safety asked for help with an individual who had Alzheimers, was suffering from delusions, and had become angry. Deputies, state patrol, the Cathlamet ambulance, and a representative from the mental health department responded. The individual was taken to the hospital. 6:51 p.m. A caller reported an overturned boat floating in the Columbia River near Vista Park. A deputy responded and the Coast Guard was notified. The Coast Guard asked the caller if he could see an orange X on the boat, as they believed it was a boat that had been floating down the river from Portland.

July 6 — 11:14 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle almost struck an adult and child on bicycles on East Valley Road. 3:36 p.m. A Cathlamet resident called to report that a neighbor had been screaming at a child for the last couple days. 4:16 p.m. A caller witnessed a motorcyclist crash on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. The rider had gotten up and headed east, stopping in Rosedale. A deputy and state patrol responded. There was no sign of impairment. 5:01 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said that she had been threatened by a neighbor. 7:10 p.m. An employee at a Rosedale business reported that an individual had put his personal items in a shopping cart and left with it. The subject was seen again by Erickson Park, standing in the road and talking to himself. A deputy spoke with the individual, who agreed to leave the cart. 8:10 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 8:33 p.m. A caller reported a prowler on PUD property. A deputy responded.

July 7 — 9:36 a.m. A caller found evidence that someone had been doing cookies in the grass in front of a church in Rosburg sometime during the night. 10:26 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Risk Road resident who had fallen off a roof. 11:05 a.m. A caller said that a man gave him a ride from the ferry to a Rosedale business, putting his bike and belongings in the back of his truck. The good samaritan dropped the caller off and gave him his bike, but left with everything else. 11:51 a.m. A deputy responded after dispatch received a call from a frightened and confused Elochoman Valley resident. 1:43 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. A deputy made contact; the individual was fine. 5:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with intestinal issues. 5:43 p.m. A caller reported two suspicious people at a Rosedale home. The caller said the owner was not home. A deputy made contact and found the people petting a dog in the driveway. 6:47 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen and was unable to move one of her legs. 11:26 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said that his vehicle had been vandalized.

July 8 — 8:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a clinic patient complaining of chest pain to the hospital. 10:06 a.m. A resident on Greenwood Road asked for assistance when her estranged husband would not let her leave. 12:22 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that her neighbor’s dogs had been barking non-stop for almost two hours. It was determined that the issue did not meet the nuisance dog ordinance. 2:18 p.m. A caller reported an injured deer along SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 2:30 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a protection order had been violated. 6:42 p.m. A caller reported three dogs running down SR 4 near the entrance to the school. They turned into the road towards the sewage plant. 7:41 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an individual in Cathlamet who called 911. She asked for the crisis phone number and said she needed to talk to someone or she was going to have a break down. A deputy and an individual from the mental health department responded. 8:22 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen down some stairs and hit her head. 9:19 p.m. A caller reported an injured deer on SR 4 just west of County Line Park.

July 9 — 8:24 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of shortness of breath. 11:52 a.m. A deputy assisted after an individual locked herself out of her vehicle in the Rosedale area. 2:17 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained about barking dogs. The owner was given a warning. 6:31 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that the subject of a restraining order had been recording her on the phone and visiting her neighbor’s house. 6:51 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman walking towards oncoming traffic on SR 4 east of County Line Park. State patrol was notified. 7:21 p.m. A caller reported a stolen vehicle title.

July 10 — 6:47 a.m. A vehicle went into a ditch along SR 4 in the Rosburg area. No injuries were reported. Deputies and state patrol responded. 10:38 a.m. A motorist locked his keys in his car while getting gas in Rosedale. A deputy assisted with a vehicle unlock. 11:13 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident who had backed into the door of a restaurant in Longview. 4:44 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor’s dogs had killed her chickens. Deputies responded and spoke with the caller and the owner of the dogs. 5:12 p.m. A caller reported that someone was setting off fireworks in Deep River for the last couple hours. 6:58 p.m. A caller reported seeing a lot of smoke coming from the east side of Puget Island. Deputies responded and notified the Cathlamet Fire Department. 7:16 p.m. A caller provided information about a vehicle and a title, and was informed that it was a civil matter, because clear ownership of the vehicle could not be established. 9:29 p.m. A caller reported that someone had been setting off fireworks in the Grays River area every night that week. 9:40 p.m. A caller reported that someone was setting off fireworks and firing automatic weapons in the Grays River area. A deputy responded and found a party at a Grays River address. He informed the people that shooting fireworks was no longer legal and there would be a citation issued if it continued.

July 11 — 5:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of pain and weakness. 11:32 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a vehicle had been abandoned on his property. 11:52 a.m. A caller reported that there was debris on SR 4 near County Line Park from a tree that had fallen. 12:33 p.m. A deputy provided a vehicle unlock for an individual in Cathlamet. 12:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain. 4:06 p.m. A bicyclist reported two aggressive dogs on West Birnie Slough Road. The caller said the dogs did back up when he stopped his bike. 4:48 p.m. A caller reported that a car had struck a deer and killed it. A deputy responded; the deer was removed from the roadway. 5:03 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that neighbors were setting off fireworks. 5:16 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that there were two fires going on a neighbor’s property. The caller just wanted the neighbors to know the rules regarding controlled burns. At 6:16 p.m., the caller said that the people had left, but the fire was still going. A deputy responded. 6:01 p.m. A caller reported kids on ATVs in Cathlamet. A deputy responded, and the riders headed home.

July 12 — 12:56 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that people with flashlights kept returning to his property. Deputies responded. 10:59 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident complaining of abdominal pain. 12:38 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 in the Grays River area. 12:57 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a Cathlamet resident was found unconscious. 3:02 p.m. A deputy assisted with a vehicle unlock at a Cathlamet address. 3:59 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance at a Cathlamet home. An individual was taken into custody. 4:44 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a stolen kayak. 5:20 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor was burning plastic. A second caller reported the issue. A deputy responded and informed the people that they were burning things they should not be burning. Part of the fire was extinguished. 6:42 p.m. A caller reported a sexual assault on a boat. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. 7:48 p.m. A caller reported an unattended burn pile on Ostervold Road. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 10:31 p.m. A caller reported that he had lost a phone in Skamokawa, and when he used an app to find the phone, its location appeared to be at a Rosedale business. The caller asked if a deputy might come with him while he looked for it. A deputy spoke with the caller.
