Wahkiakum 4-H has awarded Abigail Moten a Wahkiakum 4-H Covered Bridge Scholarship in the amount of $1,400 to continue "making the best better" in our world.

Abigail has been a 4-H member for 12 years and has been involved with dairy goats, sheep, poultry, swine, cattle, rabbits, cavies, exotics, foods and nutrition, food preservation, gardening and creative arts.

When asked what she has learned from her time in 4-H Abigail responded, "I conquered my fear of public speaking by reading my market sale biography out loud in front of large crowds. I learned to deal with my social anxiety by speaking to, teaching, and learning from strangers I have never met before. I learned accountability and responsibility from taking care of my animals, as I don't eat, shower, or sleep until they are all happy, healthy, and safe. I learned kindness and compassion through humane efforts to make every animal's life worth something. I learned to help teach children with disabilities, giving me patience I never thought possible. Most importantly, in my opinion, was my formation of a strong work ethic."

Abigail will attend Clatsop Community College this fall to finish her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. She will then transfer to OHSU for one year to complete a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Once she is a Registered Nurse, she plans on specializing in Gastroenterology focusing on adolescents and young adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
