Sheriff's Report, July 30, 2020

 


Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 20 — 12:03 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a political sign had been stolen. 2:05 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a political sign had been stolen and other political signs had been vandalized. 3:12 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that he had received a counterfeit $50 bill at a garage sale. 3:52 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that signs had been stolen from their yard. 4:27 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Deep River home. It turned out to be a false alarm, activated by accident. 6:01 p.m. An Alger Creek resident reported that he noticed that his controlled burn, started before the burn ban, was still smoldering. He had extinguished it but he wanted the sheriff’s office to know in case anyone called.

July 21 — 6:24 a.m. An alarm was activated at a property east of Rosedale. Dispatch spoke with a person who declined to provide any information. A deputy responded and found a locked gate. 7:02 a.m. A power outage was reported at a Deep River home. The PUD was notified. 10:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual at Vista Park who was having a seizure. 1:19 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a trespasser after finding a cigarette butt in her yard. 1:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Greenwood resident who had injured his hands after falling off a chair. 2:08 p.m. A caller reported that an SUV towing a trailer had parked sideways in a Cathlamet parking lot, taking up several spaces. 2:15 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg address. Deputies and state patrol responded. The owner said he had set off the alarm. 3:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 5:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was septic and in a lot of pain. 7:12 p.m. A Rosedale resident was taken into custody following a domestic disturbance. 7:26 p.m. A caller reported that youths had been riding quads past their Rosedale home all day, and that the noise and dust had become excessive. 7:46 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading east on SR 4 near County Line Park. Authorities in Cowlitz County were notified.

July 22 — 12:26 a.m. A caller reported that she had spoken to a pedestrian walking west on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. He said he was fine, just walking to Long Beach. 12:36 a.m. A caller reported that someone was sleeping in front of a Skamokawa business. The caller called again to say that the subject was now yelling at the store owner. 5:05 a.m. A hospital reported that a Skamokawa resident had needed medical attention after being bitten by his cat. 5:16 a.m. A caller reported that someone was sleeping in front of the store in Rosburg. The caller said there was a second person, but he had run away when the caller arrived. A deputy responded and an individual was detained. 7:09 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that she felt harassed after someone put a shirt on her fence. A deputy collected the shirt. 8:27 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing individual at an Elochoman Valley address. 9:17 a.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to take an individual to the hospital for involuntary treatment. 8:39 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked on the mainline. They left after her husband shined a light at them.

July 23 — 10:57 a.m. The sheriff’s office assisted the Kelso Police Department by taking a subject at a Rosburg home into custody and transferring him to Kelso. 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen and broken a wrist. 1:25 p.m. A caller reported a deceased raccoon on the Puget Island bridge. 3:02 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on Deep River Road. 10:15 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading west on SR 4 near County Line Park. The caller called back to say that the vehicle had turned around, almost striking another car head on. Cowlitz County was notified. 11:25 p.m. A caller requested assistance after getting locked out of a car in Cathlamet.

July 24 — 10:49 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle was stuck or abandoned, high centered on timber company land on the east side of the county. 10:56 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle at an Elochoman Valley residence. It turned out to belong to a landscaper who was awaiting additional equipment. 11:39 a.m. A caller reported finding a cellphone and a woman’s shoe near a tower on Puget Island. 5:15 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on Deep River Road. 7:01 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Rosburg resident.

July 25 — 6:29 a.m. A man in a sailboat in the Elochoman Slough asked for help. He was complaining of leg pain. An aid crew responded in the Sheriff’s Office boat and transferred the man to the Cathlamet ambulance. 1:11 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a campaign sign had been stolen. 3:22 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Deep River home. When the alarm company called, they were given the wrong passcode. The owners said they were out of town and did not know why the alarm would be activated. Deputies and state patrol responded. State patrol spoke with a person on scene who said he was painting the home and accidentally hit the door. The homeowner confirmed that the person was expected to be there. 3:43 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a youth who had fallen off his bike and hit his head. He had not been wearing a helmet and was not responding appropriately. 6:18 p.m. A caller reported an unattended brush fire in Deep River. The Grays River Fire Department responded, but they advised that there was no fire, and all units were canceled. The caller called back, upset that nothing had been done. Dispatch told the caller that the fire crew said there had been no fire, and transferred him to the Department of Natural Resources. 6:42 p.m. A caller requested help after getting stuck on a logging road on KM. Dispatch notified the caller that deputies were handling another call, but they would respond when that cleared. 6:45 p.m. A caller reported that they may have left a step stool in the parking lot in Cathlamet, but they were out of town. They said they would pick it up when they returned. 6:49 p.m. A caller requested a standby while he collected his belongings from a Skamokawa home. 8:32 p.m. A fire was smoldering along Deep River Road. The District 4 Fire Department responded. 9:08 p.m. A West Valley resident reported that there was a lot of smoke in the area. The Skamokawa Fire Department and the Skamokawa ambulance responded and were able to locate the fire in an attended fire pit. 9:49 p.m. A caller reported what appeared to be a fire on a ridge in the Elochoman Valley. The District 4 Fire Department responded and the fire was extinguished at 10:58 p.m. 9:50 p.m. A caller reported that several cows were on a Puget Island road. 10:04 p.m. A caller reported loud music at a Grays River home. 10:10 p.m A caller reported that people were setting off fireworks at a Grays River home. When she asked them to stop, they refused.

July 26 — 12:06 a.m. An individual was seen walking up the school access road in Cathlamet, and then heading behind the elementary school. He was yelling and punching the fence. 12:08 a.m. A caller reported that neighbors in Grays River were still playing loud music. 12:44 a.m. A caller reported a large party in Grays River, with 50-100 people in attendance. He said they were playing loud music, that many people were intoxicated, and that children were in attendance. A deputy responded and said he didn’t hear anything. The deputy said he had spoken with a firefighter who said the noise wasn’t that bad. The caller was told there was no noise ordinance in the county. 9:59 a.m. A caller said he wanted some people trespassed from Brookfield after they stayed the night there. 11:15 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. The individual turned out to be in jail in another county. 1:37 p.m. A Deep River resident returned home to find the power out. The PUD was notified. 2:07 p.m. A caller reported that several vehicles had been speeding on a Puget Island road. 3:20 p.m. A caller reported a cow on a Puget Island road. Owners were notified. 3:43 p.m. A caller reported that someone had dumped 400-500 pounds of cat litter on the pasture where he kept his cattle. 3:57 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 near County Line Park. The vehicle was stopped by law enforcement on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 8:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing. 10:26 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious person walking up and down a Rosedale road. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the man. 10:35 p.m. A caller reported that someone was camping in the day use area of County Line Park. A deputy made contact with the people and they began packing up their things to leave.
