The Wahkiakum County Eagle - Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

According to information received from Suzanne Holmes, President of the Pioneer Community Association, the PCA has worked with the State of Washington for more than a year to successfully secure funding to do much needed repairs on the historic Cathlamet Pioneer Center. The community donated an additional $487 to help “Raise the Roof” during their donation drive last year. As a result, two major projects are scheduled for this summer. After some delays, the long-awaited new roof is scheduled to be installed, beginning August 28, and exterior painting will follow in September.

For almost 125 years the building now known as the Cathlamet Pioneer Center has served as a worship center, meeting hall, senior center, movie theater, wedding site, performing arts center and most notably, the visual icon of the Town of Cathlamet. It has literally weathered storms that required FEMA dollars to restore the building for use. With the assistance of grants, cash donations through tireless fundraising, and donated labor/materials, the countless faithful stewards of this landmark building have not only kept it standing, but they have consistently updated it along the way to better serve the community.

As the building is being worked on the contractors have requested that people not park their cars in the parking area adjacent to the Cathlamet Pioneer Center and Cathlamet Library. This will allow them to safely move their equipment around and prevent potential damage to parked cars from construction debris. No Parking signs will be posted, and the PCA has notified businesses and residents around the area of the upcoming parking restriction.
