Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 24 — 1:33 p.m. A child at a Rosedale home accidentally dialed 911. 1:43 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that three political signs had been stolen and her street number sign had been broken. 2:08 p.m. A caller found a bicycle that looked like it had been abandoned on a Puget Island road. 7:24 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a suspicious man came to her home, claiming to sell cleansers. She believed he might be scoping out her home and vehicles. 8:02 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that someone had entered his home while he was sleeping. He heard a car speed off, a bag of something crinkling, and footsteps in his kitchen before someone ran off. He believed a purse was missing. The caller said he just wanted to report it in case there were was any similar activity in the area.

August 25 — 8:44 a.m. A local business reported that someone had stopped payment on a check. 11:18 a.m. A caller said he had been bitten on the foot by a dog on South Welcome Slough Road. He refused medical attention, claiming it was a minor bite. 1:34 p.m. A caller reported that a driver heading west on SR 4 was all over the road in the Nassa Point area. 1:59 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to East Sunny Sands to aid an individual who had tripped and fallen, possibly dislocating a shoulder. 4:55 p.m. A caller reported that the power was out at a Rosedale home. The PUD was notified. 7:57 p.m. The sheriff’s department was notified that there would be a night shoot for coyotes at the refuge. 10:09 p.m. A parent asked for assistance when a child became agitated and ran away from her while they were downtown in Cathlamet. She was concerned that the youth was headed toward the bridge. A deputy responded.

August 26 — 10:05 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that his donkey had gotten loose after a family member trespassed on his property and left a gate open. 11:44 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. 11:48 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down just east of Cape Horn. It wasn’t blocking the road. 12:34 p.m. A caller reported seeing an unoccupied dingy with a motor floating on the Columbia near the Puget Island bridge. Another boat towed the dingy to the marina, and the owner was called. 2:29 p.m. A caller reported that some rims appeared to have been stolen and dumped along the side of a Rosburg road. Deputies responded but were unable to locate the rims. 4:32 p.m. The Grays River ambulance provided lift assistance to a Deep River resident. 4:47 p.m. A caller reported that a westbound truck was speeding and passing in no passing zones. 6:16 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a suspicious salesman had come to her door and asked when her husband would be home. She said he left when she declined to answer. She said it looked like he had cleaning supplies. 10:46 p.m. An Elcohoman Valley resident alleged that a man had been shooting at her and that it was an ongoing issue. Deputies and state patrol responded.

August 27 — 1:28 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing motorist with a rapid heart rate who had stopped on SR 4 in the Nassa Point area. 8:24 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Deep River residence, and the person on site did not give the correct password. A deputy responded. 10:12 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a strange spot along Elochoman Valley Road. 1:13 p.m. An individual staying in a motorhome on Puget Island reported that someone in a vehicle kept coming back and screaming at him. 1:23 p.m. A Beaver Creek resident reported that his mailbox had been knocked over sometime during the night. 5:31 p.m. A caller reported that a sailboat had been tied up to the Cathlamet city dock, which the town had closed for repairs. 6:28 p.m. A second call came in about the sailboat tied up to the Cathlamet city dock. 7:32 p.m. An assault was reported at County Line Park. 8:31 p.m. A night shoot was planned at the refuge. 10:20 p.m. A caller reported a loud and large party at a Deep River address.

August 28 — 2:02 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor was shooting a gun. Deputies responded. 10:24 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that several of his political signs were missing. At 10:35 a.m., another Puget Island resident reported that several political signs had been left in his yard. 11:03 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported ongoing issues with her landowner and landlord. She said she had been threatened by the landlord. 11:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen two days earlier and was now concerned that he may have broken a leg. 1:46 p.m. A person at a Cathlamet business reported that some people who appeared to be homeless had been harassing them for free food and use of their facilities. 2:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of chest pain. 2:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance was called to a Cathlamet address to aid someone with back pain, but a second call came in notifying them that the individual had decided to drive himself to the hospital. 8:48 p.m. A caller reported hearing five gunshots in the Rosedale area. 9:47 p.m. A caller reported that the US Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services would be doing coyote shooting at the refuge. 10:48 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a possible prowler after seeing someone in the yard with a flashlight. 11:59 p.m. A caller heard a vehicle screeching up Greenwood Road before stopping abruptly, followed by the sound of a screaming woman running down the road.

August 29 — 3:52 p.m. A caller reported a brush fire near Vista Park. The Skamokawa Fire Department, the Skamokawa ambulance, deputies, and the Department of Natural Resources responded. The fire was extinguished at 4:01 p.m., but someone advised that the area might need to be dug up. 4:35 p.m. A child in Skamokawa called 911 and asked for an ambulance. A parent came on the line and said that something had fallen on her husband, but he was okay. 4:37 p.m. A caller reported that a man was messing with a gate code in the Nassa Point area and setting up a sleeping bag by the mailboxes. 4:44 p.m. A caller reported finding rims along the side of a Rosburg Road. A deputy responded and found two sets of rims. 6:03 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a power pole was swaying in the wind. He was afraid it might fall onto the neighbor’s trailer. The PUD was notified. 7:20 p.m. The Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call and could hear kids playing and adults talking in the background. Dispatch tried to call back, but there was no response. The owner of the phone returned the call a little while later and said they were out in a boat, and that it was an accidental phone call to 911.
