LCC announces fall lecture series line-up

Lower Columbia College has announced the line-up for the Fall 2020 Community Conversations lecture series focusing on “Big Ideas.” In this fully only online series, local experts weigh in on some of the biggest issues facing us right now, and how we might solve them. The first lecture is October 1.

Lectures are held on Thursdays at noon (12-12:50 pm) via Zoom. Links to all sessions can be found on LCC's website at lowercolumbia.edu/conversations. Participants can log in up to 10 minutes before each session.

All lectures are free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are needed.

Dates, presenters and topics for upcoming lectures include:

October 1: "Public Health Disease Investigation and Prevention" with Michelle Ashby, Cowlitz County Health Department.

October 8: "Comic Books as a Vehicle for Anti-Racism" with Chris Tower and Abbie Leavens, LCC Language & Literature Faculty.

October 15: "The Fighting Smelt Speech & Debate Team" with Coach and Communications Studies Faculty Alex Brehm and the LCC Fighting Smelt (currently the third ranked IPDA debate community college in the nation).

October 22: "Building Community Resilience" with Ann Holaday, LCC Continuing Education Faculty.

October 29: "Atheism" with Geof Richie, LCC Psychology Faculty.

November 5: "Self-Organized Learning Experiences (SOLE)" with Mark Gaither, LCC Business Technology Faculty.

November 12: "Jack of All Trades: How Pancho the Donkey is Saving the World" with Michal Ann Watts and Catie Graham, LCC Transitional Studies faculty.

November 19: "Trans-generational Trauma of Slavery: The Effects on Black Identity, Health and Academic Performance" with Michael Strayer, LCC Psychology Faculty.

Students may receive credit for the series by enrolling in Humanities 106 (Community Conversations).
