Two-party committee sets virtual debates

The Wahkiakum County Republican and Democratic Virtual Debates Subcommittee has scheduled five virtual debates for candidates for District 19 state Senate and House of Representatives, two state wide offices and Wahkiakum County board of commissioners.

The public has the opportunity to submit questions for the candidates.

The schedule is:

Sept. 30, 7 - 7:55 p.m. Secretary of State candidates Kim Wyman (R) and Gael Tarleton (D).

Oct. 6, 7 - 7:55 p.m. LD19 Senate candidates Dean Takko (D) and Jeff Wilson (R).

Oct. 13, 7-7:55 p.m. Superintendent of Public Information candidates Chris Reykdal (D) and Maia Espinoza (D).

Oct. 14, 7 - 8:55 p.m. LD19 State Representative candidates for position 1: Jim Walsh (R) and Marianna Everson (D) and for Position 2: Brian Blake (D) and Joel McEntire (R).

Oct. 21, 7 - 8:55 p.m. Wahkiakum County Commissioner District 1 candidates Mike Backman and Lee Tischer and District 2 candidates Dan Cothren and Tim Lawry.

Voters have an opportunity to submit questions via email by 5 p.m. on the day before the virtual debate to wahkiakumrdteam@gmail.com. Attendees will not be allowed to ask questions during the virtual debate.

Wahkiakum High School Principal Stephanie Leitz will moderate the debates.
