To The Eagle:

The pandemic has provided a panoply of policies ranging from serendipitous to atrocious. The Darth Vader role was played by Governor Cuomo of New York, whose edicts directed thousands of vulnerable elders into nursing homes where they perished. His lead was followed by governors of five eastern states, accounting for 25 percent of the total US death toll. He also completely botched the use of both hospitals and respirators provided by Trump’s nimble use of the military and private industry.

He was also one of the originators of the extended total lockdown concept, along with our three west coast governors (and various feckless mayors and city councils) which saved few lives but crippled our economy. California alone is the fifth largest economy in the world and NY ranks around 10th; both are still on the sicklist. Meanwhile, leaders of the alphabet soup agencies (CDC, WHO, FDA, etc.) squelched the use of promising therapeutics such as hydroxychloroquine, while Democrat leaders used the virus as an excuse to loot the treasury and criticize the president.

The hero list includes Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, whose policy was good information to the people, limited restrictive policies, and protecting the elderly, resulting in a startlingly low death rate in that vulnerable group. Last week he became the first to declare the pandemic over and restore his state to normal. Best Covid policy we’ve seen published was by our own Mike Backman in last week’s Eagle. Cogent and concise, it was based on individual initiative and courtesy to others, traditional American values. Unfortunately, Mike’s policy won’t have much influence, since he is merely a county commissioner.

Guess it’s too late to get him on the ballot for governor.
