Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 26 – 11:32 a.m. A caller was concerned about the welfare of two calves after seeing them knee deep in muck on a property on East Sunny Sands. 1:56 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who may have suffered a stroke. 3:43 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported identity theft after learning that a vehicle had been purchased using her information. 4:11 p.m. A caller said there was a lot of water coming from the old nursing home. Someone from the sheriff’s department said that it happened because of leaf build up and that he would check it on his way home. 6:16 p.m. A caller reported that a protection order had been violated.

October 27 – 6:59 a.m. A caller reported a deceased deer on SR 4 just east of Cathlamet. 9:03 a.m. A caller reported that logging vehicles had been speeding on West Deep River Road all day long. 11:48 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that some political signs had been stolen. 12:21 p.m. A caller requested a deputy to stand by while she collected her belongings from a home at Little Cape Horn.

October 28 – 1:46 a.m. A caller requested assistance because the battery in her car appeared to be dead. She called back a minute later to say she no longer needed assistance; she was able to get the car started. 6:52 a.m. A Grays River resident saw 50 objects in the night sky moving from west to east in a straight line. He believed they were UFOs. He was transferred to a UFO hotline. 10:24 a.m. A Skamokawa resident requested a vehicle unlock. 10:28 a.m. A caller said he had witnessed an erratic driver in a Wahkiakum on the Move van around 10 a.m. 1:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and the Grays River Fire Department aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 2:15 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident asked to talk to someone about several problems. The call was referred to human services. 2:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was lethargic and unable to move. 6:06 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a restraining order had been violated. 7:35 p.m. A caller reported hearing a shot fired somewhere in the vicinity of Morgan Drive or Cedar Lane. A deputy responded. 10:46 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg home. The owner said he had activated the alarm accidentally. 11:54 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having an allergic reaction.

October 29 – 12:45 p.m. A caller reported that water was coming up from the ground on Jacobson Road. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and city water was notified. 1:43 p.m. A caller reported that there was a vehicle in a ditch on Puget Island. No injuries were reported. State patrol responded and an individual was taken to the jail for a DUI. 1:57 p.m. A caller reported that there were 12 cows loose on a Grays River Road. The owner was notified. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported that a semi was blocking eastbound traffic on SR 4 on the west side of KM. State patrol was notified and the vehicle was moved to the shoulder. 4:31 p.m. An agency in Cowlitz County asked the sheriff’s department to make contact with a Cathlamet resident who was suspected of being involved in a hit and run. A deputy spoke with the individual and obtained the requested information. 5:11 p.m. Columbia County was notified after dispatch received an accidental 911 call from one of their residents. 5:46 p.m. A Cathlamet resident asked for assistance after locking keys in her car. 6:38 p.m. An Alger Creek resident requested a deputy to look at his vehicle for insurance purposes after he struck a deer. 7:16 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg address. A responsible party was contacted and able to turn off the alarm remotely. A deputy responded and said the building appeared to be secure and undisturbed. A responsible party met him on scene. 7:28 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Rosburg resident.

October 30 – 7:21 a.m. A caller reported that someone dropped off a car in the Glen Gate neighborhood, and then left in another one. He called back to say that a couple came back and got into the car. They told him they live one street over and didn’t have room to park. 8:22 a.m. Adult Protective Services requested that someone from the sheriff’s office accompany them when they visited a Puget Island home. 9:34 a.m. A caller asked for assistance after locking keys in a running vehicle in Cathlamet. 9:48 a.m. A Deep River resident said that a neighbor had built a burn pile with illegal materials, but had not lit the fire yet. 12:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with kidney problems. 12:40 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who may have had a stroke. 1:48 p.m. A caller was concerned about a woman who had been parked at County Line Park for several hours. The caller had spoken with the woman and said she seemed “out of it.” 3 p.m. A caller reported a disabled vehicle in the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the vehicle. 4:57 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Puget Island resident. The caller suspected that the individual was being abused. Deputies contacted the resident and said everything appeared to be alright. 5:45 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had fallen out of his chair. 7:57 p.m. A caller reported possible child abuse at a Cathlamet home. He later called back and said it was a discipline issue, not child abuse. 10:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a juvenile at Erickson Park who may have had alcohol poisoning.

October 31 – 2:47 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg address. A responsible party was on his way. 10:42 a.m. A caller was concerned that a child was being abused at a Cathlamet home. 11:54 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island home after a medical alarm was activated. The home appeared to be empty. 9:54 p.m. A maintenance door was found pried open at Erickson Park. It was unknown if anything was missing. 11:38 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg home. The Cathlamet Fire department responded. There was smoke in the house, and a fire in the wood stove was extinguished.

November 1 – 3:02 a.m. A crisis center said that a representative from the mental health department was on the line with a man who said he had a shotgun in front of him. They did not have the man’s location.
