Two more Wahkiakum County residents tested positive for covid-19 on Wednesday, according to a press release from Wahkiakum Health and Human Services, bringing the total number to 52. WHHS is not reporting how many of those cases remain active, but have in the past said that any case older than four weeks could be considered recovered.

The two are in self-quarantine, and the health department has been working with the individuals to identify anyone who may have had a risk of exposure. The health department will notify anyone who has had close contact.

Both cases have a limited connection to Wahkiakum School District, which is currently on winter break, and the school and health department continue to work together to ensure the safety of students and staff.

There is no known connection to St. James Family Center.

The risk of contracting covid-19 in Washington is increasing dramatically, the health department warns, and there is active community spread across the county.

WHHS is urging citizens to practice safety measures such as social distancing, staying at home, wearing a mask if you have to socialize, restricting activities to household members only, and considering holiday plans carefully.
