Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 18 — 12:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of chest pain. 2:19 a.m. A caller reported that a woman was trying to flag down traffic on Beaver Creek Road near the county line. Dispatch notified Cowlitz County, and they agreed to send a deputy to investigate. 8:19 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious man who had pulled into several driveways along SR 4 before stopping at Abe Creek Auto. The caller said the man was looking in the trunk of his car and waving his arms around. 2:53 p.m. A panic alarm was activated at a home on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. The alarm company called and said it was a false alarm after speaking with a responsible party. 3:10 p.m. A Rosburg resident complained after learning from his girlfriend that his neighbor’s dogs were on his property. He was not home at the time but said it was not the first time he had called the sheriff’s department about the animals. He said he was going to shoot the dogs “one of these days.” A deputy spoke with the girlfriend, who said the dogs were not aggressive. The owners were contacted and given potentially dangerous dog and nuisance warnings. 4:43 p.m. A Rosburg resident became concerned about a neighbor after he found his dog loose and tried to return it, only to find the garage door open with the car inside, and nobody answering the door or responding when he hit his car horn. He called back at 4:53 p.m. to say he had spoken to the owner and law enforcement was not needed. 6:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fainted. 7:53 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance aided an east county resident who was complaining of high blood pressure and dizzy spells.

January 19 — 5:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 8:06 a.m. A caller reported a traffic accident on East Valley Road. All occupants were able to exit a truck, which was on its side. The driver left the scene at 8:11 a.m., but returned seven minutes later. 9:21 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious person at the water plant on Elochoman Valley Road. 11:16 a.m. A caller reported that the driver of a westbound Honda Civic with tinted windows had been speeding and tailgating on SR 4 all the way from Longview. 4:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained that his neighbor was burning goat feces and hay and that it smelled awful. He called again at 5:03 p.m. to say the fire was out. A deputy spoke to the property owner and advised him about burns. 4:47 p.m. A caller said that her ex-husband’s nephew had locked himself in her shop on Jacobson Road. Deputies responded and advised both parties that it was a landlord/tenant dispute. No law enforcement action was needed. 6:14 p.m. A caller asked for a welfare check on his brother and nephew, who he believed were staying in a sailboat at the marina. He had spoken to his nephew two days earlier, and they were supposed to leave the day before, but after being unable to make contact, he had become concerned and was trying to locate them. Dispatch contacted the park host, who said there were no vehicles or sailboats at the marina matching the description he had been given. The caller called back at 8:36 p.m. and said he’d had the wrong information. It turned out that a deputy had actually spoken to his brother on the dock, and at some time during his stay he had switched vehicles.

January 20 — 2:38 p.m. The marina reported a theft of services after discovering a problem with a credit card belonging to a person who had spent a night in a yurt. A deputy contacted the woman’s mother. She didn’t believe her daughter would do this intentionally and said she would contact her, to try and remedy the situation. There was no evidence of a crime and no law enforcement action was taken. 5:39 p.m. The resident of a Cathlamet apartment complained that her neighbors were banging on their walls three to four hours a day. A deputy spoke with both parties and informed them that it was a civil matter. No law enforcement action was taken at that time. 6:03 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a Rosedale home after a young caller said there was a fire in the oven. They determined there was no fire, only smoke, and a parent was contacted. She was on her way home. 9:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale home after a caller became concerned about the resident who had just returned from the hospital and whose breathing was labored.

January 21 — 8:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist to a Rosedale resident who was suffering from back pain. 2:06 p.m. A deputy unlocked a vehicle for an individual in Rosedale. 3:26 p.m. An alarm was activated at the school radio building in Cathlamet. Day Wireless was on site. 3:49 p.m. A caller reported that a cat was stuck in a tree in Cathlamet. A deputy informed the caller that nothing could be done except wait for the cat to come down on its own. 4:28 p.m. A caller from an Elochoman Valley residence dialed 911 and hung up. No one answered when dispatch called back. 5:36 p.m. The resident of a Cathlamet apartment said that a neighbor was banging on a wall. She asserted that the noise was directed at her daughter. A deputy contacted the caller by phone and the neighbor in person. There was no evidence of criminal activity, and no action was taken. 7:34 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 10:37 p.m. A caller said that someone had seen on Snapchat that juveniles were drinking at a party on Ohrberg’s Beach.

January 22 — 3:19 a.m. A caller reported that a U-Haul truck was in the trees off the side of Beaver Creek Road. He didn’t know if it was occupied. A deputy, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. The vehicle appeared to be abandoned, but mail belonging to a possible driver was found. 9:20 a.m. An alarm was activated at the school. Day Wireless was working. 1:53 p.m. A caller said that water was spouting on Michael Street and covering the road. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 4:53 p.m. The sheriff’s department received a referral from Adult Protective Services about a resident in a Grays River home. 6:46 p.m. A caller reported that there was a vehicle with its hazard lights on parked along SR 4 in the Grays River area. 11:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident.

January 23 — 10:09 a.m. A child playing with a cell phone accidentally dialed 911. Dispatch called the number back and spoke with the mother who said everything was okay. 12:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of chest pain. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 3:37 p.m. A caller reported that someone had broken into his trailer which was parked on a Puget Island property. 4:11 p.m. A caller asked to speak with a deputy about a neighbor. She said she had waited for her neighbor to get halfway up the stairs before taking out her garbage, and alleged that the neighbor told her to stay six feet away or she would get her gun. The caller said she had recorded the incident. The deputy who responded said he could not hear the threat on the recording. The caller said a temporary restraining order had been dropped because of lack of evidence. The deputy spoke to the neighbor and warned her about making threats. She said that she did not threaten her neighbor. She also said she felt like the police would not protect her, because the police had not taken action when her neighbor had threatened her. No action was taken because of lack of evidence. 4:12 p.m. A caller said that two dogs were tied up to a truck parked in the parking lot of a business on Main Street. She was concerned they would get hit by another vehicle. The owner was believed to be in a bar nearby. 7:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a resident in an Elochoman Valley home who had fallen and was having difficulty breathing. 7:30 p.m. The resident of a Cathlamet apartment reported that a neighbor was banging on the wall. A deputy spoke to both parties. No action was taken. 7:40 p.m. A caller reported a truck and trailer parked in one lane of West Sunny Sands Road, creating a possible hazard. 11:15 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trespassing on a neighbor’s property on Puget Island. He had contacted the owner, and he said no one was supposed to be there. There was concern because of a recent break-in at the address.

January 24 — 9:50 a.m. A caller said he had full custody of his child, but his ex was refusing to let him pick up the child. He was advised that it was a civil matter. 12:33 p.m. A caller was concerned about a Rosburg resident. The man had fallen and hit his head earlier that day. He had mental health issues, and had become incoherent and was talking about death, the caller said. Deputies, state patrol, officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Grays River Fire Department, and the Grays River ambulance responded. At 1:30 p.m., the person was restrained, and willing to be taken to the hospital in Astoria. At 1:44 p.m., a representative from the mental health department arrived. At 2:14 p.m., the patient was refusing to go to the hospital.
