February 11, 2021



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 31 — 6:03 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said she believed a neighbor was responsible for a windshield wiper that she had found damaged or vandalized.

February 1 — 2:25 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking a portion of SR 4 in the Grays River area. 9:08 a.m. A caller asked for advice after finding a suspicious backpack in front of a Cathlamet business. 12:30 p.m. A caller said that people were taking cans from recycling bins on Puget Island. 4:50 p.m. Ferry service was temporarily halted because of radar equipment failure and fog.

February 2 — 4:18 a.m. A caller reported that rocks were blocking both lanes of SR 4 just east of County Line Park. 11:22 a.m. An individual delivering a washer and dryer for a rental company said he was bitten by a dog at a Rosedale home. 4:52 p.m. A caller said a carbon monoxide alarm had been activated at a Rosedale home. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 5:40 p.m. A motorist was stopped by a deputy after nearly causing a collision on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area.


February 3 — 2:35 a.m. The Oregon State Police were notified after dispatch received a call that a tree was blocking the eastbound lane of Highway 30. 7:57 a.m. A deputy responded to a one vehicle accident on SR 4 near Nassa Point. There were no injuries reported, and a tow truck was called. 9:29 a.m. Employees were burning brush at the Westend county shop. 9:31 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his truck had been ransacked during the night. He was missing a mini jump pack and possibly some other items belonging to his wife. 1:49 p.m. A school bus driver said she had been advised to report that the driver of a pilot vehicle had been rude. 5:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen out of bed and was unable to get up. 5:59 p.m. A caller reported that the driver of a lifted, white, four-door Ford had been speeding on West Birnie Slough every day. 6:14 p.m. Deputies responded to an Elochoman Valley home after someone dialed 911 and left the line open. The Cathlamet ambulance was requested and then told to stand down after the individual became combative. The Cathlamet ambulance responded again at 7:43 p.m. when the subject agreed to go to the hospital, but at 8:45 p.m., the Cathlamet ambulance was back at the station following a signed refusal. 9:04 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Rosedale resident who had not been in contact for several days. Dispatch and two deputies spoke with the individual. He said he was fine. 9:35 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911. Dispatch called back and the person said he had dialed the number accidentally. 11:58 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that a suspicious vehicle had slowly passed his home.

February 4 — 2:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and the District 4 Fire Department provided a lift assist for an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 9:11 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance provided a lift assist for an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 9:31 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported that his wallet had been stolen in December. 10:34 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that she had been the victim of a scam. The individual had been given a $2,000 check, which she was to deposit in her account and use to purchase Walmart gift cards. She later discovered that the check had been fraudulent and that she had purchased the gift cards with her own money. She was referred to the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission. 11:35 a.m. A set of keys that were found in the mud at Erickson Park were dropped off at the sheriff’s department. 2:46 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a wireless account had been set up in his name and several international calls had been made. 5:41 p.m. A caller said that a man was sitting in a blue sedan outside a restaurant on Main Street watching porn using wifi provided by the business. The caller said the man was there every day. 6:28 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of an Elochoman Valley road. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the car. 8:52 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident said that a neighbor was shining a green laser light into her bedroom.


February 5 — 9:31 a.m. A caller reported that they were testing fire alarms at the clinic in Cathlamet. 1:05 p.m. A Rosedale resident called to report a wire tap, stating that his ex-wife had called him using another person’s phone and recorded him without permission, despite a protection order, before turning the recording in to the sheriff’s office. 3:38 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had backed into a stop sign in Skamokawa and pushed it over. 4:15 p.m. Dispatch received two calls from an East Sunny Sands address about a woman who would not leave the premises. 7:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a heart issue. 7:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 7:56 p.m. A caller said that a man was being aggressive and trying to break into her home in Rosburg. A deputy responded and the individual was taken into custody.


February 6 — 7:08 a.m. The District 4 Fire Department reported that an Elochoman Valley home was going to be used that day for a structure fire training. 9:42 a.m. A caller reported that two people in a boat near East Birnie Slough were shooting. A deputy noted that it was a special duck hunt day for youth, veterans, and active military, and said that the pair appeared to be acting lawfully. 11:54 a.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Puget Island home. One person was leaving and the other was filing a restraining order. 4:38 p.m. A caller said that she was feeling agitated because an alarm was going off. A deputy responded and said everything was normal. 5:08 p.m. A caller reported a drunk driver. 6:02 p.m. A caller saw a flare go up at the marina. A deputy responded and spoke to two people who were renting a yurt. They admitted to setting off the flare and said there was no emergency. 11:06 p.m. A caller reported that a landslide east of County Line Park had closed SR 4. Both lanes were open at 7:05 a.m.
