N/GRV School Board Meeting Notes

April 29, 2021

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors held its monthly meeting on April 20.

In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the resignations of Rachel Suomela, registrar, Robert Eaton, head football coach, Kathryn Green, middle school track coach, and Scott Smith, assistant track coach. Both Green and Smith tendered their resignations to accept new positions within the coaching ranks.

In other matters of business, the board adopted four policies: Sexual Health Education, Equivalency Credit Opportunities, Student Discipline, and Emergencies.

Superintendent Lisa Nelson reported that spring sports are in full swing. Traditional winter sports (basketball) would soon be underway, and that middle school girls’ basketball and cheer had already started.

Several items of interest were presented and subsequently given the go-ahead. The board adopted Resolution 2021-4-20, Emergency Waiver of High School Credits, and approved Policies 2410, Graduation Requirements, and 2418, Waiver of Graduation Credits. These policies were proposed by the state, given the many challenges that students and families have faced due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The senior class proposed a short class trip with money they had raised over the past four years. The board approved this proposal given certain stipulations, again, due to the covid -19 pandemic.

In additional items of business, the board also approved the purchase of i-Pads with Rural Education grant funds, and approved an update of Policy 6210, Authorization and Control, which was several years old.

Contracts for Naselle Youth Camp summer school program were approved for the district's teachers as well. By statute, the district is required to provide a summer program for students at the facility.

The next board meeting is scheduled for May 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
