Sub District Track for Wahkiakum

Thirteen of 14 Wahkiakum Mule athletes qualified for district track with their marks at the sub-district meet on April 22.
Landon Nielson leaped his way to 5’6" in the high jump and earned first place at subs, his second overall first place in the event. Jacob Johnson respectively jumped 5’2", placing fifth.
Eli Moon won third place in shot put and discus, setting personal records (PR) in both--41’6.50" and 114’4.50".
The lady throwers were riddled with some difficulties but came out with five of them making it to districts and a few placing in more than one event.
After noticing some discrepancies at the shot put pit, it was brought to the attention of the “pit boss,” but the damage was done, leaving one of our own, Reigha Niemeyer, out of the finals and only allowing Kamryn Watkins a second place finish with an amazing throw of 35’9". Jansi Merz placed fourth with a PR of 31’8", and Nalani Schultz earned eighth with a 30’3.25." In discus, Kimberlee Watkins PR’d and placed fifth with a 94’9"; Nalani Schultz was ninth with an 85’6", and Merz placed second with a 109’10."
Our 4x200m women’s relay team (Merz, Lilian Hale, Teylor Sauer, and Megan Leitz) placed fourth with a PR of 2:05:74 and will get to show what they are made of at districts. Leitz also qualified for districts in the 400m with a time of 1:10.44.
In the men’s 3200m, two of our Wahkiakum Mules gutted it out to qualify--Tomme Rossi 13:18.03 and Nathan Garrett 13:17.93. The overwhelming Mule of the Day was Niemeyer in the javelin. Before subs, Reigha was throwing 84’8. Subs brought out a new Reigha, earning second place with a 93’4. These Mules are ready for their opponents today (Thursday) at districts in Rainier.
