Meet Our Seniors: Colton Bachman

April 29, 2021

Colton Bachman moved from Astoria to Wahkiakum County when he was six or seven, and so he has shared the classroom with some of the same people for most of his life.

"It's nice," Colton said. "It's not like a big school, you know everybody. You're pretty much friends with a lot of people."

During high school, he preferred to spend his time in the Vocational/Agriculture classroom with Kyle Hurley.

"I like Mr. Hurley," Colton said. "I like his classes and he's pretty funny."

Colton really likes to weld, a skill he has been mastering at Wahkiakum High School. He also enjoys math, and is currently taking Industrial Math with Jamie Kincaid.

Sports aren't this thing, but two years ago, he tried trapshooting.

"I liked it, but I really didn't have the time for it," Colton said.

During the summer, he works in Alaska, tendering with his step-father.

"We work for a cannery," Colton said. "We go out to where people are fishing and we collect their fish for them so they don't have to go all the way back to town. We buy the fish from them and bring it to the cannery."

Colton is thinking about going into diesel mechanics, but it will have to wait till the fishing season in Alaska is over.

"I like diesels," Colton said. "I like working on vehicles and stuff like that. It's what I like to do. I figured it would be a good job, with good pay."

In his spare time, Colton loves to ride his dirt bike, fish, and hunt. He hopes to stay in the community where opportunities for those activities are plentiful.

"I don't really want to go too far. I don't know about Cathlamet. I really like it here, but it's pretty hard to find places to live," he said.

Colton is the son of Sunni Thoreson and step-dad Kaleb Thoreson.
