Total now stands at 170, according to WHHS

While the Washington Department of Health (DOH) is reporting that the number of covid-19 cases had risen to 172 in Wahkiakum County on Tuesday,
Wahkiakum Health and Human Services reported five cases last Thursday, and added two more this Wednesday for a total of 170. Nine of those cases are considered to be potentially active.
There have now been a total of eight hospitalizations, one more than last week. Three deaths of Wahkiakum County residents have been attributed to covid-19.
The number of vaccine doses administered in the county in the last week rose by nine for a total of 3,528.
The majority of the five new cases reported last Thursday are from a single residence, according to a WHHS news release. There is no known connection to Wahkiakum School District or St. James Family Center for any of the seven new cases being reported by WHHS in the past week.
Health department staff are working to identify anyone who may have an exposure risk because of contact with the individuals. Those people with close contact will be notified by staff.
Vaccines are freely available to anyone 12 or older in Wahkiakum County. Health officials say that getting vaccinated is the best possible protection from covid-19. WHHS encourages everyone who hasn’t already been vaccinated to contact the health department or their personal medical provider and get scheduled to get a vaccine.
