September 9, 2021



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 29 — 11:20 p.m. A caller said an inebriated woman was at the market in Cathlamet asking for help. She said her boyfriend, who had a key to her home, had threatened her and was on his way to her house. A deputy responded and they went to the sheriff’s office where she stayed until she was sober.

August 30 — 3:15 a.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911 and became irate when asked for information. 9:41 a.m. A caller reported that a catalytic converter had been stolen from a vehicle parked at an Elochoman Valley residence. 9:53 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded when a Rosburg resident with covid-19 said she needed to go to the hospital. 3:02 p.m. A caller said that someone in a golf cart or ATV was speeding on a Deep River road. The caller said the driver flipped him off as he went by. A deputy spoke to both parties about ongoing issues. 3:16 p.m. A Grays River resident reported a burglary. 4:36 p.m. A dog was found at the intersection of Columbia Street and SR 4. The Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was contacted. 7:52 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident with respiratory issues. 10:41 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Cathlamet home.

August 31 — 8:16 a.m. A disabled vehicle was blocking the westbound lane of SR 4 near County Line Park. A road construction crew aided the driver. 11:44 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was having trouble breathing. 1:16 p.m. A caller said that two dogs at a home on Risk Road were not being fed. A deputy responded. 1:23 p.m. The Grays River ambulance and the Grays River Fire Department aided an ailing Deep River resident. 5:39 p.m. A caller reported that two dogs were loose and chasing geese at Vista Park, possibly causing injury. A deputy responded and checked on the geese. He advised the owner of leash laws in the county and the park. 7:47 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was diabetic and had an infection.

September 1 — 10:15 a.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to check a Puget Island address for a juvenile who had a warrant. Deputies responded and were informed that the individual had not been there for six months, but were allowed to check the residence. 12:55 p.m. A caller reported that drivers were racing on a Deep River road. The caller said the vehicles were loud and that it had been going on late into the night. 1:48 p.m. A caller said that a man was handing out anti-government propaganda on the ferry. 6:51 p.m. A caller said he struck a deer on a Puget Island road. The deer ran off and his car was okay. 7:39 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had broken a wrist and may have injured a shoulder in a fall. 8:41 p.m. A caller reported that a car had been abandoned in an unsafe location after what appeared to have been an accident on Altoona/Pillar Rock Road. Someone almost struck it. A deputy responded and a tow was requested. 9:16 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check after a Puget Island resident joked about a medical issue. She said the man was laughing. At 9:32 p.m., the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the home to aid someone complaining of chest pain.

September 2 — 10:07 a.m. A caller reported that a person was at a Rosedale home despite orders from Child Protective Services that said she was not to be on the property. 12:15 p.m. A court order was served at an Elochoman Valley home to take a dangerous dog into custody. The dog and an individual were taken into custody. 12:45 p.m. Drugs were found at an Elochoman Valley home. 3:29 p.m. A caller said that someone appeared to be burning something at a Cathlamet address despite the burn ban. The Cathlamet Fire Department and a deputy responded. 4:28 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that his neighbors were trespassing on his property. 5:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a person complaining of back pain at a Cathlamet business. 6:47 p.m. A caller reported that a restraining order may have been violated. 7:45 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. 8:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet residence to aid an individual with low oxygen. 10:32 p.m. A Rosburg resident was concerned that something might be going on after hearing dogs bark for the past hour.

September 3 — 10:18 a.m. A Puget Island resident said that he had inspected his dock after someone reported that it had broken free, and found that it had been cut by a saw. 10:32 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a Cathlamet resident to the hospital for an earlier injury. 8:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an injured football player at Wahkiakum High School. 8:41 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle was partially blocking the roadway on SR 4 after an accident. No injuries were reported. 9:51 p.m. A caller accidentally dialed 911. 11:21 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet home to aid an individual who was having complications to diabetes.

September 4 — 12:22 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a driver had struck a tree in their front yard. A deputy, the Puget Island Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded. An individual was taken into custody. At 12:31 a.m., it was reported that power lines were down as well, and customers had lost power. The PUD was notified. 3:16 a.m. A caller reported seeing flames in the brush along East Little Island Road. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and found what appeared to be a bonfire. Everyone was told to stand down. 7:41 a.m. A Grays River resident received a threatening text message. 7:53 a.m. A caller reported seeing smoke near a trailer on Puget Island. The Puget Island Fire Department responded. 9:14 a.m. A caller reported hearing two women talking about wearing gloves in order to leave no evidence while dumping something at the KM transfer station. A deputy checked and found nothing of concern. 10:26 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a theft. 10:28 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that four kayaks and eight paddles had been stolen. 11:04 a.m. An accident was reported on a Puget Island road after an RV trailer separated from the truck towing it. 12:15 p.m. A caller said he had received a threatening message via Facebook. 12:20 p.m. An East Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s cows had broken through a fence and were causing damage. 3:55 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fainted. 4:06 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 4:11 p.m. A deputy responded after the Cathlamet ambulance went to an Elochoman Valley home, but the person left in a car, heading towards Portland. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver on East Sunny Sands Road. 5:36 p.m. A customer was seen on camera stealing cigarettes from a Cathlamet business and driving towards the island. Deputies responded but were unable to locate the vehicle. They planned to follow up. 7:09 p.m. A Rosedale resident asked for assistance after getting locked out of her vehicle. 7:12 p.m. A caller reported that a man and woman were having an argument at a Rosedale business. Deputies responded and the male subject left the scene. State patrol spoke with the man, who had a bloody hand and said that he had been in an altercation with the woman. At 8:07 p.m., state patrol said the man was banging his head on the patrol car. 8:04 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a car was on his property and that it did not have license plates. 9:41 p.m. A caller said that a Cathlamet resident had been causing a disturbance for the last two nights. 9:44 p.m. A Puget Island resident said that a girl was trying to contact her son after a party the night before and that they did not want any contact with this person. A deputy responded and the woman said that she wanted to document unwanted contact between juveniles.
